"SCOTTISH firms are facing a skills shortage and more than two thirds expect to struggle to fill highly skilled roles".

Then pay more. People running businesses must know about how markets work and that paying more helps to attract staff.

When I moved from London to Scotland, contract rates dropped around 10-20% but salaried wages for the same work dropped about 40-50%. Some Scottish wages have hardly moved in 10 years and they still think they can attract people?

What we're talking about here in the words of the article are "highly skilled roles". Presumably these are similar to the highly skilled roles that justify high wages in London otherwise people will work elsewhere? So why doesn't the free market wage argument seem to apply in Scotland?

In London, you pay high wages to get the staff and despite the high wages and astronomic rental costs, companies still make money. In Scotland, the cost of office accommodation is much less so there should be more money available to pay market rate wages - or more if you are particularly keen to get staff. So why not? If you want good people then you have to pay good rates. That's how it works. If there's a shortage, then the employers have themselves to blame in part.

Dear Recruiting Stereotyper, please stop
Your profile indicates you have been contracting recently, therefore you will only be interested in contract work then?  Incorrect. This post is aimed at those people who don't recognise that people go through lifestyle changes and there are sometimes times...

Great read, thanks. I've noticed a lot of that myself, even at an agency we did a bid on to improve their video conferencing administration. They had the equipment and they were promoting its use to others, but still expected us to travel to them.

And don't forget the security roadblocks that get thrown up because software is unapproved or sensitive data cannot be accessed from home.

Final project submission. This is based on experiences I have had with government, Gov.UK, HMRC and the DWP and a personal desire to see flexible working become the default rather than the exception for the sake of family life, the environment, helping people to be productive and happy and ensuring that money is not wasted on needless transport infrastructure in over congested cities.

Happy to recommend this establishment - portions are generous, service is always excellent and the prices reasonable, especially on a Sunday when there is an all day 2 course special offer, if there's two of you it's even better value. The curries themselves are quite good, I've had a bit more variety in other places and the more standard names such as "madras" and "vindaloo" don't appear on the menu. I'd also prefer a bit more detail of the contents of each dish as some look fairly similar. Other than that though, happy to return as the food is good quality, the service is great and it's decent value for money. Also no problems with parking nearby in the evening.

Poor customer service. Exceptionally slow service in the restaurant. Excessive noise from the bar in the bedrooms.
