"In the United States, nearly 20% of children have a special health care need, such as a developmental disability, a chronic illness or a birth defect.

What's next for these children and their families isn't clear. The Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, has mandated that insurers in the health insurance marketplace cover treatment for anyone with such pre-existing medical conditions, which put an end to health plans limiting or denying benefits to children due to a pre-existing condition.

President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to repeal and replace the health care law throughout his campaign, and now many Americans are waiting to see his administration's plan of action."
A new photography project produced by the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health showcases the intimate lives of chronically ill children and their families.

It is that time of year again. Pumpkins, candy, and your small children getting up one hour later. Here's what you can do.
"Falling back" at the end of daylight saving time means an extra hour of sleep, unless you have small kids. Then you may be getting up pretty early.

Pediatric providers: if you could ask parents to change one thing about how they deal with their kid's behavioral issues, what would it be?

I'm working on something about barriers to dealing with sleep success. Love to know your thoughts

When faced with problem behaviors, tell your child what you want them to do (I.e., provide replacement behavior options) rather than telling them what not to do.
There are nearly 1,000,000 different behaviors your child could be engaging at any given moment, perhaps 5 of which are appropriate to the situation. If you simply tell them not to do 1, that leaves 999,999 others to choose from; those are not favorable odds...

Story
Tagline
Pediatric pulmonary and sleep physician
Introduction
I’m a pediatrician at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital specializing in the care of children with breathing and sleep problems.

Like all docs, I’ve spent a lot of time in school. I went to Yale University as an undergrad, then working in New York City for a few years before starting medical school at the University of Connecticut. I did my residency in Pediatrics and my fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology here at MGH and was honored to be asked to stay here since I finished my fellowship in 2007, in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine. I’m boarded in Pediatrics, Pediatric Pulmonology, and Sleep Medicine. I’m the Medical Director of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Institute. I have a special interest in the respiratory problems of children of neuromuscular disorders like Duchenne muscular dystrophy and spinal muscular atrophy.

In 2013 I accepted a position at Yale University and am excited to collaborate with my colleagues in the division of Respiratory Medicine with the goal of building a comprehensive pediatric sleep medicine program.

I live outside New Haven with my lovely wife and our two little boys, who are ages 5 and 2 years old respectively. They are a riot. Once my first son was born I realized that there is sometimes a gulf between textbook “perfect” parenting, and what actually works in the real world.

I will be seeing patients at three venues to start.
1.    Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, 1 Park St, New Haven, CT  06519
2.    Yale Specialty Center at Norwalk, 747 Belden Ave., Norwalk, CT  06850
3.    Yale Specialty Center at Long Wharf, 1 Long Wharf Dr., New Haven, CT  06519
