The intensity and scope of the disaster created by hurricane Harvey is on an entirely different scale than what we've seen before in the United States.

I so badly want to help the small business owners and employees that I've met throughout the years but with Houston being such a huge city, I realize my resources are limited.

I thought the best way to make the most impact would be to list resources available to help you rebuild your life and business after Harvey. So here is what I have gathered, I hope it is helpful to you.

This is an example of a great direct mail piece. The recipe for greatness: 1) Clarity. This mail piece has one purpose "Come In & Get a Free Bag of Dog Food or Cat Food." Now PetsSmart has a lot of products, they could have watered down the message by mentioning all the products they have available for dogs/cats but they chose wisely to keep the call-to-action clear and concise 2) Relevant. I am a dog owner, so they mailed me something that pertains directly to my life, (a.k.a. personalization). What if my only pet was a gerbil? Then this direct mail piece would have been thrown away and all other pieces that came in the mail after that would be thrown away too. Clearly PetSmart segmented their customers based on purchase history and spent their direct mail money on something that would drive traffic to stores and create an impact. 3. Urgency. PetSmart put an expiration date on when I could use this coupon, only 6 days, creating a sense of urgency in me to go before the deal expires. 4. Trust. Reading the fine print on the back, this deal has no added gimmicks. It's clear that "Come In & Get Your Free Dog Food" is all they are asking me to do. BUT while I'm there, I will also re-up on my gerbil supplies. So look it's a win-win! Thanks PetSmart for showing us that #printisntdead when done right!

Be vigilant about always creating a great product (or service) and you will organically get recognized. Google Analytics has been revamped with a more user-friendly webpage. They make it easy for a beginner to understand the numbers. Google is a great example of a company who continuously seeks to improve the user experience & as a result their brand has become a verb. Just "Google" it. :-) #goals #marketing #customerfirst

As a marketing consultant in the Houston, Texas area, I usually research relevant videos before meeting with a client. I look to see what content is out there that is relevant, useful and short. I was excited to stumble upon this video gem today from Marie Forleo. In this video she shares 5 specific marketing strategies you can use immediately to get customers in the door of your local business. Enjoy!
