Our Brother Nick Renner, C.PP.S., at far left in this photo, congratulates a group of Knights of Columbus, many of whom earned their fourth degree over the weekend at St. Charles Center, Carthagena, Ohio. Brother Nick received his fourth degree a few years ago. The purpose of the fourth degree, among other things, is to foster a sense of patriotism (note the red, white and blue trim on the knights' baldric) and to encourage active Catholic citizenship. Congratulations to the Knights, and thank you for your service to the Church!

Thanks to all for your prayers of support for our vocational discernment retreat last weekend at St. Charles. Fr. Steve Dos Santos, C.PP.S., said the weekend went well: "It was a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know the discerners better, but it was also an opportunity for them to meet a wider circle of Missionaries, and to hopefully grow in their understanding of their vocational discernment."

Summer is the pilgrim season at the Missionaries' Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio, but ministry goes on all year. Imagine the peace and solace of a winter retreat at the shrine; maybe a pilgrimage to this holy place would enrich your Lenten journey?

Please pray for those who will be joining our Missionaries for a discernment retreat this weekend at St. Charles Center. We hope that they learn a lot, pray a lot, and enjoy the meals a lot. May the Holy Spirit guide and encourage all those who are contemplating the consecrated life.

Wishing all the best to the Minster, Ohio, Wildcats girls basketball team as they take on Russia in the regional semifinal tonight. Here, the pastor of St. Augustine in Minster, Fr. Rick Nieberding, C.PP.S., congratulates the girls after their victory at the district tourney last week. Missionaries have long been in ministry at Minster/St. Augustine and also at nearby St. Joseph Parish in Egypt, Ohio.

It's National Catholic Sisters Week, March 8-14. Thanks to all the sisters who have done/are doing so much to love and walk with the people of God. Special thanks to the sisters in the Precious Blood family, many of whom have been in ministry with our Missionaries over the years. Here are two of them -- C.PP.S. Srs. Carolyn Hoying and Donna Liette, Sisters of the Precious Blood of Dayton, who minister at the Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation in Chicago. They're shown with Dwayne Moore in the newly renovated kitchen at the center (and thanks to the generous donor who made the kitchen renovation possible). Did a sister have an impact on your life? Thank her today!

How is your Lent going so far? Are you finding the time for reflection, to rededicate yourself to Christ? The Church encourages us to go on retreat with Pope Francis, beginning this Sunday. Incidentally, when Pope Francis is on retreat in Ariccia, Italy, he will be very near our C.PP.S. mission house in Albano, which was founded by St. Gaspar del Bufalo and is still in use by the Italian Province.

As part of the formation program, Greg Evers (pictured in maroon shirt below), a candidate of the Cincinnati Province, has been experiencing the multicultural aspect of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. For over two months now he has been living, praying, and ministering with the members of the Central American Mission. He was asked to reflect on his experience and has sent us this reflection.

Thanks to all who volunteered at another successful week of surgeries at the Sangre de Cristo Health Care Project in La Labor, Guatemala. Our Fr. Bill Beuth, C.PP.S., who's in ministry at the parish there, says volunteer medical crews from Dayton performed 145 surgeries in five days. "I can't believe how well they all work together. Our catechetical center was converted into a operating room, and our dining room into a recovery room." Minor surgeries included carpel tunnel, hernia repairs and foot procedures. Hats off to Sr. Dani Brought, ASC, the health care project director, who organized the whole thing, and to the crew who volunteered.
