February isn't only Valentine's Day. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th and George Washington on the 22nd. President's Day, which honors all the Presidents of the United States is observed on the third Monday of the month. This year that falls on February 16th. We have several new patriotic ribbons that you can use to create a wreath or swag that will work for President's Day and other patriotic holidays. Here's a white version of our popular "American Story" 6" wide ribbon. #PresidentsDay #Patrioticribbon #Americana #Flagribbon

Scrolling through my newsfeed, this image posted by Female Artists in History made me stop and look more closely. It's a painting by Remedios Varo (1908-1963), a Spanish-born painter who moved to France and then, escaping Nazism, to Mexico. She remained in Latin America the rest of her life. This painting reminded of Tim Burton's work, especially on "Alice in Wonderland", maybe because of the vaguely caterpillarish shape of the woman. Still too early for many flowers to bloom outside even with the mild winter we've had, but I'm excited that the African violet I've had for years without a single bloom has changed tactics. And somehow, I managed to keep alive and have a rebloom on a gloxinia from from my favorite garden center, Genrich's.

Watched the PBS "American Masters" show about Loretta Lynn recently. She named one of her daughters after her good friend Patsy Cline. On this day in 1963, Cline and country artists Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins were killed in a plane crash near Camden, Tennessee. Cline is credited with being among the first country artists to break into the pop charts. We're more than a day late sharing this, but couldn't let Women's History Month go by without noting the importance of March 3 and the massive suffrage procession the day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration.  March 4th is also an important date: it marks the day Jeanette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress, took office (1917) and the day Francis Perkins took office as the Secretary of Labor, the first woman ever appointed to the President's Cabinet (1933).  You can read about both women in a short article by Time, http://time.com/3728654/jeannette-rankin-frances-perkins/

Just in time for Ghosts & Skeletons Week, we heard from our customer David of The Empty Studio/David Estrada, a California based artist. He's transformed several of our skull masks into Day of the Dead Masks! Go on over to his page to see a range of his work, give him a like and tell him Cottage sent you! Great job, David!  Visit his facebook page, http://on.fb.me/1JJIzqF or his webpage, http://bit.ly/1WBCZzL ‪#‎DayoftheDead‬ ‪#‎DiadelosMuertes‬ ‪#‎DayoftheDeadWreath‬

Ghosts and Skeletons Week! The first ghost I ever heard of (outside of Church) was "Caspar the Friendly Ghost." Seems even ghosts can be frightened of skeletons! ‪#‎Ghosts‬ ‪#‎Skeletons‬
