Introducing the new Google Photos

Earlier today we announced Google Photos -- a new approach for storing and organizing your photos and videos, built from the ground up. Google Photos is a standalone app that gives you a home for all your photos and videos, helps you organize and bring your moments to life, and lets you share and save what matters.

If you want to give Google Photos a try, it will be available later today across Android, iOS and the web.

I watched the I/O from up here in the Canadian wilds, ok, near Toronto... and the new photos does look cool. The sorting etc has a good deal of appeal. Offline maps however... that is super sweet. :)

Last week +Thrillist published this list of things "you can only do in DC." While that is debatable in general, its still a fun list to peruse :) How many of these things have you done?

What if we worked together to create a more accessible world for all?

Today we’re announcing $20 million in grant funding through the Google Impact Challenge: Disabilities. We’re challenging the thinkers, the doers, the builders to create technologies that can make a difference to the one billion people around the world living with a disability.

Together, let’s ask the right questions, find new answers, and build a better world, faster. Join us: http://get.google.com/disabilitiesimpactchallenge/
Let’s work together to help change this. The ‘Google Impact Challenge: Disabilities’ aims to expand opportunity and independence for people with disabilities. Click here to take part.

I had no idea LA was home to the steepest street in California! How did it beat San Francisco's brutal climbs??

Meh, +Thrillist "14 Things You Can Only Do In SF" is weak sauce, but it did make me a little homesick for my City By the Bay ;) What do you guys think?
Where else will you find an X-Wing pilot racing Mario on Easter?

Whooooaaa, check this out: Future Library
A thousand trees have been planted in Nordmarka, a forest just outside Oslo, which will supply paper for a special anthology of books to be printed in one hundred years. Future Library is a new public artwork by Scottish artist Katie Paterson that will unfold over the next 100 years in the city of Oslo, Norway. Between now and then, one writer every year will contribute a text, with the writings held in trust, unpublished, until 2114.

The prizewinning author, poet, essayist, literary critic and environmentalist Margaret Atwood has been named as the first writer to contribute to Future Library. She will hand over the inaugural manuscript and reveal the title on Tuesday 26th of May, Oslo, in a special ceremony that can be viewed by all on Periscope.

Is Prema the best salon in New York? Possibly. If a drink and light massage to kick off your cut and color are the way you like to roll, then head over to this black box salon in East Village. I found all ove the staff to be amazingly friendly and accommodating, but most importantly I got expert advice and the best haircut and color of my life. Gregg my stylist took the time to learn how I care for my hair, the style I was interested in, and really knew what to do with my fine, flyaway hair. He delivered a creative and easily maintainable cut and colored to match. I can't recommend Prema hair salon highly enough.

The lobster roll is super pricey at eighteen dollars, but it's the best I've ever had. It's small, but the lobster to bread ratio is heavy on the lobster but with the bread grilled in butter, I found myself wanting more bun. Friendly guys and a fun location in Gansevoort Market.

A packed-to-the-rafters neighborhood hardware shop in Chelsea. Whether you need hooks, drain caps, a towel rack, screws, a coffee maker or a Kiss nesting doll, this small shop has a little bit of everything. Plus friendly service who will help you dig out what you need and even let me bring my dogs in with me.

If you want high-end tile for your home, building, hotel, subway station or anything in between, check out this family run business with a long history of delivering quality goods. They have tile that looks like tile, wood, bamboo, or printed marble. The showroom is worth a visit alone (and when you find the bamboo tile weave, touch it, it feels awesome.)

It's expensive but the sandwich is pretty amazing. Get a shorty for nine bucks and a cold beer for five and chow down on the tiny patio - standing up of course.

The meatballs here are fantastic; as is the artisanal lighting in the dining room. See if you can get the bartender to make you an arugula gimlet - shockingly good.
