Lets talk about a β release
In case you're not alphabets friendly "β" (uppercase "B") is the second letter of the Greek alphabet and you would know it as "beta". This means that this post will be the long awaited Ozon beta release.TL;DR
We can safely say that there is a huge chance that the Beta release will land this week or the beginning of the next. Read on if you wish more information. What will the beta have
As you know in software-ville beta means uncomplete/test edition of certain product, so Ozon beta will not be exactly like the Ozon final. It will feature its own wallpapers, icon theme, GTK theme, Gnome-Shell theme and plymouth theme. An Ozon repository for Fedora will be created and enabled out of the box, so you will be able to update AtomES and Ozon components with click "install updates" from the Gnome Software application. The default apps will be different from what fedora ships (but as you can imagine we will ship plenty of Gnome apps) and there will be some under the bonnet improvements. And of course our Gnome-Shell extensions will be installed and enabled by default. It should be stable enough for daily use and will give you fair impression of what you should await for the final version.
This screenshot represents some aspects of the look of it:https://plus.google.com/b/114059589828649263886/114059589828649263886/posts/HMCjkvWhBDF
*Why the "when it's ready" principle?"
It's simple - we have a crush on +Daniel Foré
Ok, ok, we kid. Well, at least we don't have crush crush on him.
Now, in all seriousness - the reason we have adopted this principle is not because we've some evil diabolic masterplan to keep you guys in the dark and be secretive. It is much more trivial - we are a small team and things at small teams don't happen fast enough, so we couldn't have given you a date long enough before the actual release, because we were afraid we wouldn't have been able to keep up to the promised date and as a result lie to you, albeit unintentionally. As you can imagine, that would have been bad for us and you both.A website
It would be silly of us to not create a website for the beta release, so we are in a process of making one. To make the post shinier we've attached a mockup of it, that represents how the actual website will look in a fairly accurate way. Surely, we may reword a phrase or two or change some other minor thing, but that's about it.What's next
Next up we will either release an RC and then final or bite the bullet and jump straight to a final. ETA - When we're ready. :)
