When a photo is not very interesting as a color version it's a mental trigger for me to try a black and white conversion. A photo may have a lot going for it with composition, light and so on, but the color look is just meh. Let's explore how much better this scene became once I got rid of the color.

Thoughts on being an observant photographer http://www.coreyhilz.com/blog/2015/1/being-observant
Let's take a walk. Or a drive. Or go run some errands. When I'm out and about I look at the lines, colors and shapes of things around me. I find patterns and repetition created by those lines, colors and shapes. I'm talking about while going about daily life; I'm not looking for a picture, just observing my surroundings.

Learn how I processed this photo, taking it from flat and washed out to rich with contrast and accentuating just the right details.

Let's revisit the photo from my last post where I talked about how I chose between two similar compositions. This time we'll turn our attention to image processing and just look at the "winning" photo. The photo started out flat and washed out. I did my image processing with Intensify Pro  and was surprised how big a difference a few adjustments made.

How to Analyze Photos When Editing - dealing with the challenges of choosing your keepers from a photo shoot.

http://www.coreyhilz.com/blog/2015/1/how-to-analyze-photos-when-editing
One of the challenges when editing your photos is deciding which ones to keep and which to delete. I'm not one to keep everything "just in case" I can find an overlooked gem later on. I want to choose the best of the photographs I made. For some photos, or a series of images, one will jump out at you as the shot. The decision becomes more difficult when you have a series of photos that only a little different from each other and there's...

Waterfall in the Poconos, working with a high contrast scene. Blended together two exposures to hold on to the detail in the dark rocks and light water. I used OnOne's Perfect Photo Suite to combine the photos.
