Seems unfortunate. I spend more time consuming podcasts than any other non-text based media, from NPR to think tank events. NPR podcasts seem extremely popular as well. This seems a very short sighted move on their part and hopefully not a harbinger of things to come.
The public radio giant is letting its present impose a strategy tax on its future.

Great CFR conference call with Micah Zenko on the use of Red Teams in public and private sectors, as well as the critical thinking and dissent within institutions needed for them to function properly.

If the end result is the best candidates for Red Teams are those with diverse work history, students of history and failed in a professional environment than I should probably consider a new career!
Micah Zenko, senior fellow at CFR, discusses the use of red teams—groups enlisted to identify weaknesses and anticipate threats—by the military, intelligence community, and private sector, and outlines best practices for employing these teams effectively.

Great set of photos from Renan Ozturk
Adventure filmmakers Taylor Rees and Renan Ozturk thought it would be a mellow working vacation: they’d capture footage of four young Brits as they traversed 250 miles of Iceland’s fissured terrain, starting in December.

Bravo Apple. As much as I am sympathetic to the concerns and pressures on the intelligence community to fail 0% of the time in catching terrorists, the misguided war against encryption would produce far too few benefits in relationship to the problems it will create by a more insecure connected world.

A few days removed from the 70th Anniversary of the "Long Telegram". The editors note from the article basically sums up the dogmatic nature of our foreign policy to this day:

The left’s desire to save the world by good works and the right’s desire to save it by military adventure are, in Kennan’s view, just two versions of an ill-informed, ahistorical, and doomed romanticism. Saving the world is beyond America’s capacities, and is likely to harm both us and those we are trying to save, he says. Weariness and exasperation mark his descriptions of American policymaking.

Well, let me update my LinkedIn resume to reflect that I have given myself an Ivy League education. I'm sure employers will find it a completely acceptable credential. In all seriousness, some great reads to be found here that are the canon of Western society.

This is great news. Google Ideas has always been a really great project and +Jared Cohen a personal inspiration in many ways give his larger than life presence exploring some of my favorite subjects with some of my favorite people and organizations (Google, State Dept, Eric Schmidt, etc.) Now that they seem to be getting even more autonomy, it will be exciting what they have in store for the future.
