NEW LONDON RESTAURANT REVIEW: Our London restaurant writer-at-large Anna Wallis takes a look at Charlotte Street's latest addition: The Wild Game Co. The founder, Andy Waugh, opened his first stall on Broadway Market, selling and championing wild game and venison sourced from his family's butchers in the Scottish Highlands. All in a kilt, with a smile! Read how he now came to have his own restaurant in London's super cool foodie district. http://www.coolplaces.co.uk/blog/2014/11/4/267-the-wild-game-co #londonrestaurants   #placestoeatlondon   #dinnerideas   #dinnertime   #london   #foodie   #wildgamerecipes

BONFIRE NIGHT BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT: Edward Teach – better known to the world as Blackbeard, the pirate – famously used to fill his hair with lit firecrackers and bits of burning rope before going on the rampage, in order to make himself look demonic and scare the living daylights out of people. Blackbeard was from the South West of England and it seems his hair-raising penchant for pyromaniacal high jinx is in the blood down this way. For every bonfire night the little Devonian town of Ottery St Mary turns into a pyros' pantomime, setting fire to tar-lined barrels and running through the streets with them held aloft on their shoulders or heads. 20,000 people flock to this cider-fuelled event and you can read Pat Kinsella's full review here: http://www.coolplaces.co.uk/blog/2014/10/30/264-bonfire-night-but-not-as-we-know-it   #bonfirenight   #devon  +Visit Devon  #blackbeard   #pyrotechnics   #fireworksnight   #thingstodoindevon  +Devon Life

YHA HOSTEL OF THE WEEK: YHA Blacksail - which recently featured on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces. The hostel is set in some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Lake District. Hostels might not be for everyone, by YHA hostels are. Comfortable, affordable and with a great friendly atmosphere. Going on holiday to the Lakes shouldn't be bank breaking when accommodation like this is on offer. WE LOVE YHA! Often mistakenly overlooked as an accommodation option, there's a huge variety on offer at YHA, from a former gentleman's shooting lodge on the Yorkshire Dales to a converted grain house on the waterfront right in the heart of Bristol. You might end up staying in a Castle, a Mansion, or even a camping pod, or camping under the stars at one of the YHA hostel campsites. Our YHA HOSTEL OF THE WEEK IS YORK. With the York Illuminations at the end of the month, now is one of the best times to visit one of the UK's most beautiful and historic cities. Treat yourself to an affordable weekend away with YHA. http://www.coolplaces.co.uk/places/uk/england/north-yorkshire/york/9593-yha-york +Visit York Information Centre  #york   #hostel   #ukholidays2014   #weekendgetaway   #weekendfun   #hosteloftheweek   #coolplacestostay

COOL LONDON RESTAURANT: Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings, Clerkenwell, the recently opened all-day brassiere and bar from the team that brought you Blitz Party, Prohibition Party, Reverend JW Simpson, and, the original Bourne & Hollingsworth bar in Fitzrovia. It's like the French Caribbean with slatted shutters masking the private dining area, palisade ceiling fans, and flora and fauna adorned furniture. The place is a visual feast – and the food is pretty special too. Foraging sounds like a great idea in theory, but if you don't know what you're doing, it can be more fruitless than fruitful. Luckily, the awesome folks at Fore/Adventure can take you foraging and fishing, kayaking and coasteering or wild camping, teach bushcraft and, tailor-make foraging feasts and adventures for groups of adults or children from their base at Middle Beach in Studland. You'll be a foraging pro in no time. http://www.coolplaces.co.uk/blog/2014/10/14/261-fishing-and-foraging-in-dorset #dorset   #dorsetphotographer  +Visit Dorset  #fishing   #fishingtrip   #foraging   #foragingforfood   #cookingtips   #cooking   #beachlife   #beaches   #beachphotography   #bushcraft   #adventuretravel   #adventuretime   #ukholidays   #ukholidays2014
