Things are hectic at the moment, but not too hectic to make a spur-of-the-moment ride out to Clarens, South Africa to wish Piet from #okavango15 a happy birthday! First time traveling anywhere in ZA and first time seeing an expedition mate since @intotheokavango's end. Forgot the birthday selfie but snagged this #iphonephoto of a cave near the house of some new friends. Bushmen paintings and a powerful spiritual energy... From outside a spiritual "satellite dish," from inside an eye towards the universe. What a place, what a trip! Happy birthday, Piet. #iphonephotography #iphone #cave #clarens #southafrica #southafricaza #freestate #sunset #instasunset http://buff.ly/1PcN6JR

A boy and his dog. It seems like it was a long, long time ago that I walked up a hill with Butumero, who said that he was carrying some wood to boil water. He was about 15 years old, and he had a stutter. I'll never forget the look on his face when I told him he spoke English very well. #boy #dog #aboyandhisdog #mansbestfriend #lesotho #africa #mountainkingdom #malealea #mountains #mountain #valley #walking #earthpix #travel #instatravel #travelgram #life #africanskies #bestfriends #firewood http://buff.ly/1O3wxku

Today I shared and discussed jazz music, jams, and theory with a new friend in Maseru, rode the bike to Morija for a photo exhibition where I met several new creative collaborators for my conservation music work, set up a jam session with Morija musicians for Saturday to start a new tune/video there, got some final erosion footage for the Malealea video we shot last week, brainstormed a lot of ideas, and took this picture on the way back to Maseru. Now it's back to the defunct Russian embassy building to play some more jazz. #Lesotho #Africa #shebeen #shop #mountainkingdom #bar #dusk #global #travel #globaltravel #worldtravel #worldtraveler #conservationmusic http://buff.ly/1l6J2P2

Flashback to Angola. There was no shortage of water in Cutato back in June. Snapped this photo with the land-based science team for #okavango15. Now in Lesotho (and Botswana), I'm focusing on the flow of music, in hopes of harnessing this universal language to solve problems in conservation and humanitarian affairs...amidst a historic drought. #Angola #waterfall #Africa #dusk #river #flow #water #night #travel #earth #earthpix #cutato #purple #cataratas #westafrica #adventure #bomdia http://buff.ly/1ML0tj1

My lifestyle for a while. It's been busy in Lesotho, as I set up the framework of locations and musicians to meet with, not to mention acquiring the bike. I'm grateful to be blessed with a growing number of Mountain Kingdom friends, who have been helping me to make this thing possible. So now the stage is somewhat set, and the horizon is chock full of Ba'Sotho music, jazz, backcountry motorcycle travel, and conservation efforts in this washed-away land that is currently facing a historic drought. Can't wait to see what's in store next. It's been a great first week. #lesotho #africa #mountainkingdom #themountainkingdom #basotho #mosotho #offroad #motorcycle #kawasaki #klr #klr650 #travel #traditional #music #journey #quest #conservation #maluti #mountains http://buff.ly/1l9QTLX

I've gotta say, I miss these hard slog days with Into the Okavango. Mud, sweat, and leeches. The polyrhythmic splashing of each teammate's frantic trudging as we tried to work as one. Now in Lesotho, the mud becomes red earth, and the leeches turn to cobbles in the trail for two tires to fumble and spin on. Excited to start really sweating again. #okavango15 #okavango #okavangodelta #hardslog #teamwork #mud #sweat #leeches #expedition #suffering #natgeo #wilderness #botswana #africa #mokoro National Geographic http://buff.ly/1GAsVmR

As I prepare to leave Botswana (for a while) tomorrow, I think back to Seronga, my home in the Delta, and the birthplace of my traditional music conservation project. I never expected the project to come so far so quickly, and it is thanks to so many soulful musicians, kind souls, and fellow souls away from home that we have gotten here together. I've found so much love in this country, bursting at the seams as it waits to erupt through the next bout of music, work of art, or dose of poetry. I will be back, maybe even sooner than planned, and I can't wait to hit the ground running again. In the meantime, Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho, I'm coming back to hear the way the music fills those valleys and canyons of yours. #seronga #village #traditional #africa #okavangodelta #okavango #hut #travel #botswana #goodbye http://buff.ly/1LvJYW9
