"When you read a great novel, you put yourself in the place of the hero or heroine, feel her difficulties from within, regret her bad choices. Momentarily, they become your bad choices. You wince, you suffer, you have to put the book down for a while. When Anna Karenina does the wrong thing, you may see what is wrong and yet recognize that you might well have made the same mistake. And so, page by page, you constantly verify the old maxim: There but for the grace of God go I. No set of doctrines is as important for ethical behavior as that direct sensation of being in the other person’s place."

It is time to use every moment of every day striving towards the destiny for which we have been created in, with and through Jesus in whom the journey begins here on earth, and in whom it is completed hereafter in heaven.
Recently I wrote about the sacred touch used by the first Apostles

I have been offered a new opportunity related to my writing that would be a huge commitment, with potentially huge impact (and a little bit of money). I ask your prayers as I discern whether the Lord wants me to take this up right now. My oldest son is starting high school in a few weeks, and I'm his teacher, so I am very busy with things I can't set aside. But I'd really like to do this, if it could work out. Can't give you the details yet, but I appreciate your prayers.

Thanks for the prayers. I'm deciding not to do this for now, because my homeschool year is going to be really tough. I think it's okay to say now that Dan Burke had asked me to teach a couple classes on the Carmelite saints at the Avila Institute for Spiritual Formation. I would have loved to do it, but there's a time for everything.

The Wanderer was kind enough to print my comments on Centering Prayer in response to a Catholic Replies item.

A couple of weeks ago I spoke with Genevieve Kineke on her Feminine Genius radio program. We talked about prayer--my favorite subject--with a little trust thrown in. Click on the link on her sidebar to listen to the archived show.

I haven't asked any of them about it. I can only imagine that those who are trying to live there vocation well are happy with it. I don't talk much with cloistered nuns, but I do have an interview coming up with some for our diocesan paper...

Introduction
I am a Catholic wife and mother of four boys, dedicated to prayer and to teaching my children to pray. I am the author of Trusting God with St. Therese, A Spiritual Growth Plan for Your Choleric Child, and Is Centering Prayer Catholic? I developed my own homeschooling method to foster a contemplative lifestyle. I blog on that and Carmelite spirituality for adults at Contemplative Homeschool. I also own the Google+ Community Indie Catholic Authors.

I wrote the e-book Five Lessons from the Carmelite Saints That Will Change Your Life. You can download it free for your Kindle or Nook.
