I did the Rainbow Mountain tour with Conde (and it was my second time going). I paid a little bit more than I did for my first trip, but the difference was really there. The van was warm and comfortable and easy to sleep in for the 5hr ride to the start of the trek - good when you're starting the trip at 3am. The breakfast was also not bad, tea, bread and eggs (and actually enough spreads and cutlery to go around, unlike last time). For me its super important to have a good breakfast before a trek... The guide spoke really good english and spanish, and he was always around and encouraging my friend who was really feeling the altitude. If at any time she needed it, he would have been there with the extra oxygen. Buffet lunch + soup was also pretty good. They also told me that if you go to Rainbow on a day when the weather forecast is good in Cusco, the weather should be the same for rainbow. I went twice because the weather was bad the first time, but second time was perfect!!

We took a trip to Machu Picchu last week and Conde travel was very helpful, especially when we had to change our plans for the return trip. Our guide was excellent and especially accommodating, even changing the location of our dinner the first night when he sensed how tired we were.

They helped me around the Sacsayhuaman ruins in Cusco, Peru. My guide was very knowledgeable and kind. I loved learning about the history and culture of Peru from them!

DO NOT USE!!! I booked through Kanoo Tours a middle man that uses this company for the actual tour. They dropped my ticket off at the hotel- the guy gave me his number to contact. The pick up went smooth. THE PROBLEM: I paid extra money for a English tour. 1st: At the train station no one spoke English! So I was left standing not know what to do & no one in the group could help by translating for me. None of them spoke English. 2nd: At macchu pichu I expected a English tour (which I paid for)... Guess what! DID NOT HAPPEN! Again no one could translate! 3rd: at the train station back at 8p a night NO ONE was there to pick me up!!! I was stranded alone!!!!! Had to wait 1 1/2 hours to get a pick up! And I paid $20 usd in phone charges calling every number I had! Being a solo female alone is no good! I paid for a tour so THIS didn't happen! And it did!!! I was scared and honestly pissed off. 4th: after the driver let other people off at their hostel he left me at a park someone where I wasn't familiar with! I eventually found my way back but being left at a park where everything is closed at 12am alone is not cool! I paid for a service I didn't get. Save your money and go alone! They will take your money and run. For what happened I would have saved 150 usd going alone and felt safer with less stress! They failed to rectify the situation... Take your money and run, they know you won't be back because your a tourist. Save yourself and go with another local who cares. There are plenty of options.

I had a great experience at Conde Travel. They arranged for a tour guide to ride through the countryside with me from Cusco to Ollyanta. Was a great experience. The guide, Alex, was very easy to get along with and told me lots of stories about the local customs and geography and history. I recommend it to anyone who is visiting, it is a superb way to get halfway to Macchu Picchu.

Reading the (genuine!) reviews below, I see we are not alone in having a very poor experience with Conde. We also booked via Kanoo Tours (who were great actually), but were very disappointed with the Machu Picchu tour. We booked an English tour months in advance, and were put in a Spanish speaking group with a guide with poor English, and high sleaze factor. The tour was half-assed and lacked any enthusiasm or information, the stuff you pay a premium for to be on an organised tour. We also had transport issues on the way home, where they tried to leave a solo female traveller behind because the bus was full. On top of that, they also booked the wrong ticket for our Machu Picchu day, omitting the fact we had paid for Mountain access (which is strictly controlled). Conde's response? 'Just try bribe the guy at the gate'. This was after our 45min rushed vague tour around one of the most incredible places on Earth. Unprofessional, dodgy company, please don't even consider booking with them.

We initially booked our tour to Macchu Picchu through KANOO Tours online. All seemed to be in order and we were told to go to their representative company Conde Travel when we reached Cuzco. As instructed we went the day before our tour and we were told that the transfer was in place but to come back later for a final briefing. When we returned we received tickets for the train and for entrance to Macchu Picchu itself. Nothing else. We were also under the impression that the gentleman that was speaking to us would be picking us up in the morning - this was not the case! We were picked up by a different person in the morning, although that was fine. We got on the train fine- and then the problems started. A guide was meant to meet us when we disembarked the train-nobody was there. As part of the package we had purchased tickets for the bus that takes you from the train station in Aguas Calientes to the ruins were included - but as no guide was there we had no bus tickets. We had to pay extra to get to the ruins - and didn't have enough money for a return ticket (almost $50 per person) A freelance guide called somebody who said they were waiting at the top for us- got to the top and nobody was there!! Ended up having to join another company for their tour which was fine but not what we had paid for. They ended up giving us money to get back down to the train station. When we went into Conde Travel the following day to complain we spoke with the manager Luis who seemed to be very apologetic and claimed responsibility. We discussed getting a 50% refund which would have been equivalent to $180. He asked us to return later that evening to collect compensation once it had been cleared with the owner of the company. As you can probably guess, when we returned he was not there-neither was the compensation. Another employee using the office called him and he was "busy" until 10pm-he refused to speak to us when we asked and also sounded as if he was at a party. He asked the other employee to give us $40 dollars as a refund -not even enough for the bus trip. More of an insult than anything else. Basically, don't waste your money with these companies!! They charge over and above what it would have cost to do it indepentently. The idea of taking the package was for the security of it running smoothly as this was one of the main trips that we had been planning. When managing a backpackers budget, $180 per person is not cheap. They are dishonest, do not deliver what they promise and do not respond to any communication if you have a complaint. Our advice- STEER CLEAR OF KANOO TOURS AND CONDE TRAVEL!!!
