Although it hasn’t snowed yet, we've been ready for #winter operations! As soon as the last winter season ended, our Equipment Services Division prepped for this upcoming season by inspecting equipment, such as #snow plows and sidewalk tractors, and servicing them for any needed repairs and maintenance. Our Highway and Utilities Division has also been ready with 2,500 tons of salt mix prepared and ready to go since the end of October. Snow plow operators have been trained for safety as well.

Whenever that first snowfall comes, crews will be ready! #firstdayofwinter #ConcordNH

The #NH Department of Environmental Services has awarded the City of #ConcordNH a grant of $300,000 from their Aquatic Resource Mitigation Program! This grant will assist in the acquisition of two parcels located on Lakeview Drive and West Parish Road that will add to the protected land in the area of the Penacook Lake Watershed. The City of Concord's Conservation Commission applied for this grant to further protect the Concord community's primary source of drinking water and the approximate 900 acres of conservation land that surrounds it. Protecting Penacook Lake and the watershed property around it is critical to the safety of our water source and all Concord #water consumers. We are very happy for this exciting news! Thank you NHDES!

Our #Sewer Systems Supervisor, Kevin Bartlett (pictured left), will be retiring mid-February after 40 years with the City of #ConcordNH. Kevin started out as a temp in 1976 as a landscaper for the #PenacookNH Cemetery and worked his way to Sewer Systems Supervisor in 1998, and has remained in this position for 18 years! Kevin has been a valuable asset to our department and will be dearly missed.

Our new Sewer Systems Supervisor, Bob Demers (pictured right), started this week and is being trained by Kevin before his departure. Bob has been with the City of Concord for 20 years so far, starting out in 1996 as a permanent Equipment Operator for the sewer crew and worked his way to Sewer Maintenance Supervisor in 2008. Bob’s primary responsibility as the new Sewer Systems Supervisor will include supervising and coordinating the sewer crew on construction, maintenance, and repair of the City sanitary sewer and #drainage system. This includes cleaning, inspecting, reconstructing, and installing mains, manholes, catch basins, and laterals. Congratulations on the promotion, Bob! We know you will serve the community well.

Our #water crew has been out testing fire hydrants and preparing for the #winter season. There are 1,903 hydrants in the city that have been tested for any standing water in the barrels. If any water is found, the hydrant must be pumped to prevent freezing. If any ice is found in the hydrant, it is thawed out. Our crew will continue to inspect hydrants for water and ice throughout the winter season. This is an important maintenance task performed by our water crew to ensure hydrants are working properly during the winter season for ongoing fire protection to keep the #ConcordNH community safe.

Learn more about our water distribution at www.concordnh.gov/waterdistribution.
