Agents, we want to thank you all for your continued enthusiasm and support as Ingress turns 3 years old.  As a token of our gratitude, all Agents that reach Level 3 by midnight Pacific Time (PT) on Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 will earn a special Vanguard Medal.  The Vanguard Medal will be awarded based on the following tiers:

Bronze Medal: Reach Level 3 and above
Silver Medal: Reach Level 9 and above
Gold Medal: Reach Level 13 and above
Platinum Medal: Reach Level 15 and above
Onyx Medal: Reach Level 16

Additionally, for the next two weeks (from November 17th to December 1st), each Portal action will generate double Action Points (AP).  For example, capture a Portal to earn 1,000 AP (instead of 500 AP).

Fluctuations in the Portal Network have caused the Hack output to be significantly boosted across the board as well.

Share your favorite Ingress memories using the hashtag #IngressYearThree .  It’s time to Move, Agents.

We're really biased to think the universe selects for intelligence. At best it selects for lichen which barely clings to rocks in the blast of a solar wind.

OK, sometimes through happy accident, two planets smash into each other and you end up with an iron dynamo in the new planet that can deflect the poisonous solar winds, and then you might get oceans of healthy moss, fed by its sun for a few billion years until the sun winks out.

It would be extremely rare for even multicell life to come into existence. But OK, if that happens, maybe a few of those planets even have lush plants and seaweeds. Maybe they even have some single cell oxygen breathing vegans to dine on them.

Multicell animals though? That's basically life evolving to be multicelled twice over. But when that happens, I suppose you'd get plenty of sea monsters, cows mostly.

I suppose eventually you might get land cows. And perhaps after a billion years, the they would evolve into great beasts which fed even on each other.

So even in the best of cases, the universe selects for dinosaurs. But hey, what if they just happen to get hit by an asteroid?

And then a whole bunch of other things need to go just right. The universe is big, but way too many things went right just for us to be here. A recent study has come out in which scientists tried to find the kind of waste heat a large successful intelligent starfaring civilization should be giving off by now in distant galaxies. They couldn't find a thing.
