Local health professionals combat opioid problem - New Mexico drug overdose death rates have significantly improved over time. New Mexico now ranks 17th in the nation for drug overdose deaths. In 2014, it had the second-highest rate in the nation. And 2017 was the first time since 1999 that it did not rank in the top 15 in the nation. New Mexico’s lowered death rates come in the midst of national decreases as well.

New Laws: Responding to Trauma with Social-Emotional Learning - Committee for Children - "Trauma-informed practice has been around for decades (at least since the 1990s) but has taken off recently in policy circles and now is permeating schools and school systems, mapping closely to social-emotional learning (SEL). Social-emotional learning supports trauma-informed practice, and vice versa, to ensure all students can feel safe and ready to learn."
