I see elder abuse frequently in all its variations. Here is a story with a happy ending due to empathy from NYPD. http://www.comprehensivegeriatriccare.org/blog/2018/6/6/the-30th-precinct-does-elder-abuse-well

I love this event, but I am not sure what my contribution is to the potluck.

Comprehensive Geriatric Care is happy to sponsor The CareGivers' Project Spring My Mother's Recipe, a potluck for caregivers. They come from old to young. Food and friends with an interest in giving care to elders. #ComprehensiveGeriatricCare #TheCareGiversProject.

#homebound lives matter

Today's early morning email contained an announcement from NYC Department of Health about a peaking number of influenza cases in New York City.

Notify me immediately of fever, cough, confusion, loss of appetite, or new aches and pains. Do NOT “see if it will go away tomorrow.”

Prevention is hand washing because the droplets can be picked up from household surfaces such as bedrails, and bathroom fixtures. Sick people should not come into the homes of #homebound.

Three years ago one of my #geriatric patients died of influenza. The law suit from the family against the homecare agency is still ongoing because the home health aide came to work sick, after she called in sick on another job 3 days earlier.

It is the right thing to do for a home based caregiver to call in sick. Dying from a preventable illness is bad enough, but I could not bear to hear another defense attorney repeatedly imply that some lives have no value.
