The best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year. Take time to get a flu vaccine.
• CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses.
• Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.
• Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every year before flu activity begins in their community.

You have options when it comes to choosing your health insurance company. Before you decide, learn more about us. We are confident you will find that we are a different kind of health insurance—one that is more responsive to your needs.
• As a Maine-based nonprofit, we believe that access to affordable healthcare is something that everyone in our community deserves. We’ve designed our plans, programs and benefits around our Members (people who purchase insurance from us).
• Health Options is a Member-led organization, governed by a Board of Directors, 51% of whom are Members, themselves. The Board is elected by Members and operated for the mutual benefit of our Members.
• We are all working toward the same goals—keeping Members healthy and making health care as affordable as possible. That’s why only 20% of Health Options’ income is directed to administration—any earnings over the 80% used to pay claims is returned to our Members in the form of lower prices and improved services.
• Our Members come first, and we are committed to providing trusted and understandable information. Our highly-trained Member Services Associates in Lewiston and Fort Kent are responsive to your questions and concerns—providing you with accurate and timely information with courtesy and respect.
When you compare the details, you’ll find that you get more for your money when you choose Community Health Options.

There are currently 37 million people diagnosed with HIV worldwide, with an estimated 1,800 living in Maine. Not included in this, however, are the one in seven people living with HIV who do not know their status. In line with this year's World AIDS Day theme of "Know Your Status," the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) and Community Health Options are encouraging individuals who are unaware of their HIV status to get tested.
"While HIV does not often make headlines in 2018, it still impacts people across Maine," said Dr. Bruce Bates, Director of Maine CDC. "I encourage people to talk with their healthcare providers about their risks for HIV and get tested to know their status."
Talk to your Primary Care Provider or visit gettested.cdc.gov to find HIV testing locations.
