The Headline: World Cup Soccer: US can beat Germany

The Story: Tonight’s semifinal game pits the top two teams in the world. Germany, ranked number 1, boasts blitzkrieg offense and opportunistic goal scoring. It’s 10-0 win against the Ivory Coast in the first round left spectators speechless. The United States is known for its impenetrable defense. The goalies vie for best in the world.

Both teams have won the World Cup twice. The United States won in 1991 and 1999, and Germany won in 2003 and 2007.

The game is likely to be the best game of the tournament so far, and will likely even outshine the final game.

The Headline: Flags are symbols. So what have we learned from Charleston about faith, a flag, and equality?

The Story: As the discussion continued at multiple levels, in multiple venues, nerves were struck and explanations were proffered. But ultimately, even staunch supporters found themselves back-peddling, going from defending the flag to reconsidering the racist undertones it presented. The message, from both sides of the political aisle became loud and clear: The flags must come down.

The Headline: #fearthewalkingdead Too little known; but we know somethings (videos)  #thewalkingdead

The Story: “Fear The Walking Dead” takes place in the very earliest days of the zombie apocalypse, a time during which society has not quite figured out what has happened and Zombies are treated as victims of an unknown contagion. The show attempts to answer one question that Walking Dead fans have been asking: How?

The Headline: A T-Rex of a review: ‘Jurassic World': Nothing is ‘natural,’ especially the plot

The Story:  “Jurassic World” tries to get beyond the “dinosaurs are cool” meme, the better to return to the franchise’s original premise linking the wonder of it all to the reality of modern creative genetic science – in this case gone terribly wrong.

The Headline: Euro down, stocks set to tank, Grexit potential looms large

The Story: ‘Tsipras’ offer amounted to a not-very-diplomatic flip of the bird at the rest of the Eurozone, given that the deadline for accepting or rejecting the latest bailout terms is June 30. The result: the potential for a Greek exit from the Eurozone’s single currency − the dreaded “Grexit” − looms larger than ever.

For the busy hostess or host, it can be challenging to find time to prepare crowd-pleasing fare which also encourages good health.

The following Fourth of July recipes are extremely healthful, and have red, white and blue ingredients and colors which also pay homage to our nation’s Old Glory.

The Headline: As goes Greece, Puerto Rica follows: Math, debt and deluded deadbeats

The Story: Actually, lending a government money to buy the votes of favored constituencies is, and always will be, a foolish “investment.” In this case, it’s hard to have sympathy for the lender any more than the lendee.

According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, “For the first time in modern history, Puerto Rico is seeing its population decline. This troubling loss can be traced to an exodus of Puerto Rican citizens to the U.S. mainland… a ‘brain drain’ – that is, the loss of its most educated, or highest-human-capital, citizens… Without significant economic growth and the job creation that would follow, incentives to leave the Island will remain compelling.”

The Headline: The story just begins: After SCOTUS decision, watch #Obamacare costs

The Story: The other problem is the cost of health insurance for those who do pay for it. Because of ACA’s subsidies, reduced competition in the marketplace, and the requirement that policies provide coverage that people do not want or need, health insurance premiums are skyrocketing. Some states could see annual premiums increase up to 50 percent next year with even more increases due in future years.

It is simply not mathematically possible to cover an additional 11 million people who are not fully paying for health insurance without having huge increases in premiums for all other paying Americans. And the quality of care will suffer since there is no provision to increase the number of health care providers.

The Headline Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams & his greatest team (hint not an MLB team) http://po.st/603fOI @MrPeabod#WWII

The Story: Immortal Boston Red Sox slugger Ted Williams was known for his hitting prowess. He was the last man to bat over .400 in a regular major league baseball season, and he homered on his final at bat; the last of his career total of 521 round trippers.

It is common knowledge that Williams, known as “The Splendid Splinter” and “The Thumper”, served five years as a Marine fighter pilot during World War II and Korea while at the height of his major league baseball career. But here, as Paul Harvey would say, “is the rest of the story.”

The Headline: The world should celebrate- US Independence Day for the international community

The Story: With their Declaration of Independence, America’s Founding Fathers rejected the notions that all people are born subjugated to those endowed by their creator to rule and that nations exist solely to serve the powerful elites. In doing so, they laid the foundation for modern views on the role and responsibilities of government.

The Headline:  It depends on how you look at it: Charleston, Confederate Flags and Caitlyn: In the context of time

The Story: The Confederate flag is a symbol. Symbols mean things. The flag should have been removed long ago. It should never have been allow to denigrate to the symbol of hatred that it has become.

However, making every southerner out to be a “good ole boy” and calling everyone in the south a redneck is an offensive stereotype that even someone as eloquent as Garrison Kiellor of A Prairie Home Companion had the stupidity to utter over the weekend.
