An exercise in simple science communication at ESA 2016 inspired by Randall Munroe's Thing Explainer

"The new grass lands are different from the old grass lands because they don't have any memory." (Reduced ecosystem function of restored prairies)

"Green things eat the sun and the air." (Plants get their biomass from airborne carbon and sunlight)

"Bugs that help trees have sex...." (pollinators)

"Green life and animals have to change time to have sex." (Phenology and climate change)

"Small animals with six legs and four wings that like sweet drinks and help green things with sex..." (Bees)

There's a new upper class that's completely disconnected from the average American and American culture at large, says Charles Murray. Take this 25-question quiz to find out just how thick your bubble is.

Near the top of the Rockies, crews climb trees and risk danger to collect pine cones. But this isn’t an extreme sport: their work is key to saving one of the West’s iconic trees.

Yes, we should all be working, but this is really, really beautiful. Those last few shots where the sockeye are dying, having given everything for the next generation, actually gave me goosebumps.

Time to find out how many Republicans support religious persecution, racism, hate speech, egotism, and megalomania in the Jello belt of Arizona, Utah, and Idaho.

Hahaha...Laura bought me his book for Christmas. It's really nerdy and great. I like this line from his most recent comic the most:

"You would just stop being biology and start being physics."

The location was convenient to the airport. However, the shuttle doesn't run 24 hours a day, so we ended up having to find alternative transportation. I can't say anything about the continental breakfast because we had to leave the hotel too early. The room was comfortable, and they did provide a crib for our baby. Overall, I would stay there again.

The rooms are all suites. The hotel has a beautiful atrium with water features. The rooms are comfortable with private balconies. The hotel offers a superior free breakfast and happy hour drinks and snacks. It is somewhat expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The drive-through line is very confusing; it only holds one car. The prices are slightly higher than corporate fast food, but the food is better and the service was great. You get what you pay for. The homemade sherbet is amazing.
