After two years of managing an increasingly complicated labyrithine folder structure containing various versions of my rpg in various states of revision, I'm finally throwing up my hands and adopting version control as a necessity.

After all this time, I've finally pulled together a group to play some Apocalypse world. I've written out a summary of our first session with some pretty pictures! Check out the awesome things Foxtrot's player has done with his playbook.
Session 1 SummaryAfter working on an Apocalypse World hack for several years, you’d think that I had, you know, played Apocalypse World. Turns out, I hadn’t. Not until now, at least. In honor of Fury...

Foxtrot's playbook looks great.  The game sounds excellent so far.

"People make decisions from a place of emotion. We know this because if the emotional centers of a person's brain are damaged, they become incapable of making even the most basic decisions."
There's an online meme that goes, "Arguing with an engineer is a lot like wrestling with a pig in the mud; after a couple of hours, you realize the pig likes it." It's a prevalent enough form of communication in our field that most of us can think of an argument we had recently. Vim versus Emacs. Test-driven development versus whatever is the opposite of test-driven development. Python versus Ruby. JK, that's totally not a debate. Python is clear...

The next public version of Adventure World (soon! I hope!) may very well be abolishing experience points as a mechanic, to go for something a little more elegant. This is from the Scoundrel, hence those specific questions on the bottom.

I'm not sure about the "You may only do this once per question". And also, it could potentially be "Then, ask the others: did I...". Also, the questions may not be the best possible questions. But this is the general idea: resolving a thread always results in improvement, and you also have some encouragement to play your archetype into the role it's meant to fufill.

Soon! The next version has been long-in-coming, with many many changes (including, I think, a name change), but it is on the way! I just need to get another round of internal playtesting, I think.

Chopin's E-minor prelude (you know the one), interpreted stunningly through glitchy synths. From the soundtrack for Fez.

I announced this to the Planarch Codex community yesterday, but to make it public: Dark Heart is now free (in addition to being CC-BY)! Basically, it's had a great run, and there are several new Planarch booklets in the pipe (thanks in part to my new Patreon). And I want to make sure the new stuff will be accessible to Dungeon World fans without people having to own previous products. Dark Heart is the foundation of all the other weird stuff I do, so here it is!

Walt Whitman, from the preface of Leaves of Grass:

This is what you shall do;
Love the earth and sun and the animals,
despise riches,
give alms to every one that asks,
stand up for the stupid and crazy,
devote your income and labor to others,
hate tyrants,
argue not concerning God,
have patience and indulgence toward the people,
take off your hat to nothing known or unknown
or to any man or number of men,
go freely with powerful uneducated persons
and with the young
and with the mothers of families,
read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life,
re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book,
dismiss whatever insults your own soul,
and your very flesh shall be a great poem
and have the richest fluency not only in its words
but in the silent lines of its lips and face
and between the lashes of your eyes
and in every motion and joint of your body.
