In this stop-motion adventure, an outbreak of canine flu leads the mayor of a Japanese city to banish all dogs to an island garbage dump. When a boy arrives on the island to find his beloved pet, the outcasts embark on an epic journey. Isle of Dogs features the voice talents of Bryan Cranston, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Scarlett Johansson, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Bob Balaban, Harvey Keitel, and Liev Schreiber.

After the film, canine-cognition expert Dr. Alexandra Horowitz, principal investigator of the Horowitz Dog Cognition Lab at Barnard College/Columbia University and author of the bestseller Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know, will take you inside the brain of humankind's best animal friend with her presentation Living with Dogs, Living with Us.

The National Evening of Science on Screen is the annual showcase event of the nationwide Science on Screen grant initiative, which is funded by the Sloan Foundation and administered by the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA. Grantee theaters run three or more Science on Screen events per year, creatively pairing screenings of classic, cult, science fiction, and documentary films with presentations by notable experts from the world of science and technology.

The Colonial’s additional Science on Screen presentations for spring include The Princess Bride paired with The Inconceivable Science of The Princess Bride by Dr. Ellen Dawley, professor of Biology at Ursinus College on Saturday, April 21 at 1:30 PM and Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story paired with From Weapons to WiFi – How Hedy Changed History by Kapil R. Dandekar, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, College of Engineering, Drexel University on Sunday, May 20 at 4:30 PM.
