Very good article and thought provoking. I look forward to reading your follow up articles.
The Event is one of the most undervalued entities in a family-history (or any history) collection. Excessive emphasis is usually placed on the Person entity, and virtually none at all on the Place entity. Read how the Event i...

Great perspective for researchers - it is so easy to revolve the adventure around the people and places.  Quite insightful!

+Colin Spencer Thanks for that. I still enjoy handing writing the trees. I keep my data in Excel and have specific branches in my FT program. Thanks for that. It is always interesting to find how others keep their study.

I have had a busy couple of days working on my One-Name study finding and publishing records of the Lefever and variants names in both Spain and Switzerland. See more details on my study website.

Interesting reading. Are we now encouraged to expect too much as genealogists?
What can and cannot be proved? Can we prove anything at all? How close is the genealogical process to that of mathematics or the sciences? Like a number of people with a mathematical or scientific background, I que...

I've just responded in a different thread +Jim Benedict to say that I'll be talking about levels of confidence, and numeric scales generally, in a future post (probably in Jan now)

Tony, one commercial package deals with this quite well for some events, that is if I understand what you are saying. Take a look at Ancestral Sources (free) in conjunction with Family Historian (paid but free 30 day trial), it is what I use and it allows different citations for all of those involved in an event with one source record. More events are to be added to Ancestral Sources. (Just a happy user of both in no way associated with either package).

Ancestral Sources works with any Gedcom file but not all FT packages support this way of working.

Unfortunately, my Events are hierarchical and have durations Colin so it's not a good fit for me. I may come back to this subject again, though, because I can freely define new Event-types without fear of clashing and without stepping outside of the STEMMA specification. I have some work to do for V2.2 since I want Groups to have the same top-level support as Person, e.g. for modelling a military outfit. At the moment, that entity type is something of a second-class citizen
