Established in 2005.

Colibri Mexican Bistro lies in the heart of San Francisco's bustling Theatre District, just a block west of Union Square. Spanish for "hummingbird," Colibri combines the simplicity of authentic family recipes with fresh, high-quality ingredients to bring diners unparalleled, delectable Mexican cuisine in a charming, turn of the century cantina setting.

This warm and inviting eatery is reminiscent of Mexico City restaurants of the 1900's, decorated with classic Spanish paintings and accentuated by a vast collection of uniquely shaped and rare tequila bottles. Filled with energy, Colibri projects black and white 1940's Latino-film clips at the front of the house, while the open kitchen in back provides glimpses of its colorful cuisine in different stages of completions. Boosting a knowledgeable staff and attentive, sociable management, Colibri is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourist and locals alike.

Lively, wood-decked bistro serving guacamole prepared tableside, plus moles, tequilas & more.- Google
"And they bring you free housemade corn tortillas with three dipping sauces."
"If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not the place."

The food is awesome, this is real deal Mexican food, not your regular Taqueria, the flavors and ingredients are authentic, the place is nice, really enjoyed the mood and ambience. good choice of Tequila. not expensive for a nice restaurant/bistro I'm a regular here. the only comment would be about service, not very fast not really alert of their tables most of the time

Tourist trap. Stay away. Food was not good at all. 4 people on the table and all plates were bad.

We really enjoyed the ambiance of this place. The food is quite unique and a welcomed, sophisticated take on some regional Mexican dishes. We had Empanadas (appetizer), Mole Poblano, Filete Mignon, Torta de Elote and Churros rellenos (dessert). The empanadas, filete, and churros we all wonderful. I would order those gain. Torta de Elote was especially unique. The mole was likely authentic, but the flavor just wasn't for us. Others may like it.

Four stars for their brunch, three stars for dinner. The first time I dined here was for dinner and I ordered the chicken mole. I thought it was pricey, but it was a pretty good meal. However, I suggest coming here for brunch. Everything on their brunch menu looked delicious. I always order chilaquiles, and I did, but I was close to ordering the huevos rancheros. I ordered the chilaquiles with the red sauce, and it came with fried eggs and black beans. The chips were crispy. The red sauce was flavorful, especially with the egg yolk. The plate looks small, but I was pretty full after I finished. I just wish it had avocado, but it was already around $15 and I didn't want to be charged extra. And my roommates and I ordered guacamole as an appetizer. What I didn't like was that we were charged an extra $2 for chips. You get a trio of salsas to start, and our salsas came with a basket of chips along with homemade corn tortillas. The menu does state that when you order guacamole, you can order the chips for the extra price. We never specifically ordered it, but yet we were charged. My roommates and I didn't want to argue over $2, but if you don't want to be charged, ask the waiter before s/he puts the chips down. Overall, I had a very delicious brunch. The place is small, yet welcoming. I recommend making reservations on OpenTable if you do dine here.

This was a great find!!!! My wife and I had brunch here and it was amazing!!!! I had the shredded chicken omelet and it was soooo good! Taste explosion. My wife had the chiliquelies(sp?) and she said it was the best brunch/breakfast dish she had ever had. It is not in in the best part of town BUT sometimes that is where you find the best eats. Our service was fine.... Not sure what all these haters on Yelp are griping about the service for. I would highly recommend this place for brunch. We will go back next time we are in SF.

The food is honestly great. Although the service is awful.. Bottomless mimosas = wait for your server to come in 45 minute intervals.. Slowest service I've encountered in San Francisco...

I am Mexican, and very picky when it comes to Mexican food. This joint is great! Great relaxed atmosphere, and the food amazing! I got surprised by the menu, in Mexico City only the best places have this kind of ingredients, such as huitlacoche and pipian, just to mention a few. Tried panuchos and sopes, very good. Dessert? "Caballeros pobres". Make yourself a favor and ask for that dessert.

I've been here about 10x now, I have something different each time and everything has been very good. The seating is a little tight between the tables and each other but the food makes up for it. There is always a line out the door on saturday and sunday mornings so be sure to be there before 930 am if you don't want to wait a long time in line.
