Yosemite After The Storm

One of my favorite places to photograph from in Yosemite National Park is an area known as tunnel view. While this spot is very popular, it offers some of the best vertical views of Yosemite Valley in the park. Here you can often see Bridalveil Falls, Half Dome and El Capitan all in one spot..

This image was taken with the Sony a7r 36mp mirrorless full frame camera. #SonyAlpha

One of the coolest things about using Sony mirrorless cameras is that fact that you can install apps on the camera body to extend its function. Here is a quick tip on how to easily get them setup with your  cameras:

For many, the ocean is their place of peace and serenity. For others like me, it is found in the mountains. I can't fully explain it, but something constantly draws me into these incredible landscapes.

"Storm Over the Outback"
Karijini National Park

There is something special about witnessing a storm roll out over the Australian Outback, an area known for its dryness. This image was taken just outside Karijini National Park in the northern part of Western Australia.

Behind the Lens || Fjallsárlón Glacier Reflections

I always love exploring Iceland at different times of the year. Last night I took my workshop clients to Fjallsarlon Glacier, which is right next to the more popular Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon. Needless to say the story dramatic clouds and perfectly still water made for great reflections.

Lots more goodness to come! 2016 workshop schedule will be up soon!

Installing Apps on your Sony Mirrorless Camera

As many of us prepare to get our hands on the new Sony a7rII 42mp mirrorless camera next week, I thought it was important to share a little trick I use for taking advantage of the ability to install apps onto your Sony's camera to increase its functionality.

If you are new to Sony or are tired of trying to install and updates apps on your cameras 3" rear LCD, check out this quick blog post. Enjoy & Share!

That's a great tip, as it is a pain on the back of a camera.

At least on a Mac (I don't know PC's well), this grants the Sony app root level access. While likely no big deal, they aren't exactly known for the quality of their security as there have been some significant Sony breaches.

"The Layers of Death Valley"
Zabriskie Point, Death Valley National Park, CA

It is amazing to visit and explore places like Death Valley, where you can literally see the layers of the earth right before your eyes. It doesn't hurt that a large portion of DV is actually significantly below sea level.

The beauty of Akaka Falls, just north of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii is hard to ignore. While it doesn't look like it from the observation desk, this waterfall stands 420ft tall. The lush green landscape that surrounds it helps to frame this beautiful waterfall on one of my favorite Hawaiian islands.

Pushing Mobile Phone Photography to the Next Level

While it is easy for all of us photographers to get fixated (and even obsessed) with camera gear, the truth is that the best camera for a given situation is always the one we have on us at the time. For many, that is our mobile phones. As technology has increased, so has the images coming out of the little devices found in most of our pockets.

What are your thoughts on mobile photography? Have you made any money from mobile images? Do you think it is a viable option for some?
Pushing Mobile Phone Photography to the Next Level. Written By: Colby Brown There is no doubt that photography as a whole has changed over the last decade. Not only are more people interested in the art form, but advancements in technology have helped to make powerful cameras smaller and more affordable than ever. While DSLR sales are starting to get eaten up by their lighter and more affordable...

Every once in a while it is nice to get a sense of perspective and scale from Mother Nature. For me, that means heading back to Iceland later today for yet another trip to this unique country.
