California Coastal Cleanup Day is 2 days away! Find your site at www.CoastalCleanupDay.org and help with our #MarineDebris , #CigaretteLitter , &  #PlasticPollution  problem. Be sure to geotag your finds with the +Litterati app, keep a tight datacard, and/or use the #cleanswell  app to record everything you pick up. "Congratulations to WHALE TAIL® grantee Pacifica Beach Coalition for another successful Earth Day of Action this past weekend. It was a pleasure to attend the lively event and tour different neighborhood work sites and see the busy Pacifica community pitching in to improve their environment." —Sylvie B. Lee, WHALE TAIL® Grants

Each year, Pacifica chooses a mascot to pledge to help.

Otter Hero Pledge

I pledge to conserve the natural resources of the Earth and Ocean, to learn more about otters, to pick up litter and reduce my use of plastics and oil products. I pledge to walk more and drive less, to garden naturally and pick up my pet's waste. I pledge to show respect for nature and all living things and to use my voice to speak up for the environment.

It is time to bring our focus back around to the annual cleanup that will happen this year on September 17. California Coastal Cleanup happens not only at your favorite beach, but in sloughs, lagoons, parks, creeks, canyons—anywhere trash builds up along our watersheds. An important arm of Coastal Cleanup is the marina and yacht club initiative. Here is a wonderful video from Sequoia Yacht Club in Redwood City describing their involvement with CCD. If you'd like your boating community to become involved, please contact Vivian Matuk at (415) 904-6905, or email: vmatuk@coastal.ca.gov.
