Can physiotherapy cure headaches? An article by Brendon Samson suggests that, as headaches are primarily a sign of upper neck region dysfunction, physiotherapy could be an alternative to medicated control of headaches.
Of the three primary types of headaches, tension-type, migraine and cervicogenic, physiotherapy has shown the most results when treating cervicogenic. Some signs of cervicogenic headaches include one-sided pain that is worsened by neck movements and located at the base of the skull. If you are unsure about the type of headaches you experience, a physiotherapist can perform specific tests to differentiate a migraine from a headache.

If you fit into this category or are still unsure of the cause of your headaches, why not seek a physiotherapy consultation to find out if there is a non-medicated cure or control for your pain.

Coach Hill Chiropractic & Sports Therapy is excited to announce the addition of a deep tissue Class 4 laser to our practice. Some of the benefits associated with the innovative and effective technology of a deep tissue Class 4 laser include instant pain relief, decreased swelling, and enhanced healing times.

The K-laser has the strongest infrared laser wattage on the market at 20 Watts; making it 40 times stronger than most other therapeutic Class 3b lasers in the city. A typical Class 3b Laser would take hours to deliver the same therapeutic dose of energy that can be provided by a deep tissue Class 4 laser within minutes. Class 4 lasers are quick, effective, have a better depth of penetration, and the ability to focus on a larger area of treatment than a typical Class 3b laser.

Deep tissue Class 4 lasers are used to effectively treat arthritis, ligamentous sprains, muscular strains and tears, fractures, and many other painful conditions.

Contact us today to book your appointment for deep tissue Class 4 laser.

If you are suffering from Sciatica in Calgary, and looking for sciatica treatment, we can help! Our Calgary chiropractors and physiotherapist are trained in several techniques that help with their sciatica treatments. Active Release, Graston, IMS, adjusting, and rehab are all important, depending on the cause of your sciatica.

Sciatic pain occurs when something compresses the sciatic nerve, which sends pain down one or both legs. There are three different "types" of sciatica that require slightly different sciatica treatments.

Sacroiliac Joint Sprain:

This does not lead to true sciatica, but sends referral pain down a leg and mimics sciatica symptoms. The pain tends to stop before the knee, and once the joint's motion is restored and the muscles are loosened, symptoms resolve quickly.

Treatments: Adjustments, Active Release, Graston.

Piriformis Syndrome:

Muscles around the sciatic nerve can tighten, pressing on the nerve and sending pain as far down as the foot. Our Calgary Chiropractors and Calgary Physiotherapist use Active Release Techniques (ART), Graston, IMS (needling), and other methods to release the tension in these muscles, which eliminates the pain! This sciatica treatment gets results fast, and our therapists teach patients methods to help prevent its return.

Treatments: Active Release, Graston, IMS.

Discogenic Pain:

A disc can press on the nerve roots as they exit the spinal cord, sending pain down the sciatic nerve as far as the toes. Disc issues can lead to numbness, muscle weakness, and severe pain. Depending on the severity of the disc injury, surgery may even be required. But, for most cases of discogenic pain, or disc bulge, the therapies our chiropractor and physiotherapist offer can provide permanent relief.

Treatments: Active Release, Acupuncture.

Kinesio Taping is a therapeutic taping technique that uses elastic tape to enhance the function of different physiologic tissues and systems. Kinesio Tape is a technique that can be combined with other therapies including acupuncture, Active Release, and electrical modalities. The tape can be worn for extended periods of time with continued therapeutic benefit between clinical visits.

Kinesio Taping is now offered at Coach Hill Chiropractic & Sports Therapy. It can be used to relax overused muscles or facilitate inhibited muscles in order to restore muscle balance or exert postural influence. It also provides proprioceptive correction by signalling to the brain, via skin receptors, information about normal tension on target tissues, and can offer dynamic stability to target tissues.

If you are looking for Kinesio Taping in Calgary, both of our chiropractors are fully certified. Give us a call if you have any additional questions about taping, or visit our website at www.coachhillchiropractic.com.
