Have you ever felt you’ve been clear and up-front with someone about a performance issue, only to be met with stony silence or an angry rebuttal?

Of course you need to let people know when standards are slipping, but there’s often more to the problem than meets the eye.

This week, A Meeting goes Wrong as when Carol meets with Mike to address his time keeping.

She’s courageous and honest; but things don't go as she'd expected.

If this is painfully familiar to you or a colleague, visit   http://go.cmpresolutions.co.uk/great-difficult-conversations for more information on how to prevent difficult conversations going wrong.

“Every day a million people are treated safely and successfully in the NHS. However, when incidents do happen it is important that lessons are learned to prevent the same incident occurring elsewhere.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigation is a well-recognised way of doing this. RCA Investigations identify how and why patient safety incidents happen."

Join Katherine and Jai for coffee or lunch at the Healthcare Conference on Root Cause Analysis,24 June 2015 in London!

Over the next 6 weeks we will be following Carol, Mike and their colleagues, as they experience the difficulties that arise when we don’t have the skills to handle conflict at work. All this could have been avoided in at least 6 steps if this organisation had embraced the key aspects of dispute resolution.

This week, Trouble is Brewing as Carol, the manager, finds Mike is starting to come in late.

Your organisational values state your expectations and needs about your people; for example, that they are transparent, trusting and honest.  Your values should be the cement that holds people's relationships at work together, even when things go wrong.  But when things start to go wrong, those values take a back seat as people revert to self protection. And if this means finding a reason to avoid even a low-level difficult situation, things can quickly go from bad to worse.

It doesn’t have to go wrong! To find out the role values play in preventing and managing conflict at work, and to avoid this happening to you or a colleague, visit
