The Durban International Film Festival is honoured to present "An Act of Defiance" directed by Jean Van De Velde, which tells the story of Bram Fischer who managed to reconcile his white Afrikaner roots with his desire for justice, joining the struggle against apartheid out of principle. He defended #Madiba and his comrades in the Rivonia Trial of 1963 and 1964 – playing a crucial role in preventing the ANC-leaders being sentenced to death – and was an underground guerrilla at the same time. http://bit.ly/2NS11Z4 #MandelaDay #MandelaMonth #Mandela100

In a first for Africa, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Pretoria and the French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), have brought a replica of the world-famous Lascaux cave paintings and the cave itself to South Africa.

The Palaeolithic cave paintings are around 17 000 years old and are mostly of large animals native to the region at the time. They are regarded as masterpieces because of their outstanding quality and sophistication. http://bit.ly/2ITd0Sv

Once, chef Brett Ladds was given a cigar by Fidel Castro, he talked weightlifting with Swazi King Mswati III and his cooking made Quincy Jones sing. For many years he also served Nelson Mandela cups of rooibos tea and made him his favourite meals. #MandelaDay #Madiba #MandelaCentenary http://bit.ly/2uyj0f0
