City councilperson, Lisa Goodman, and her assistant, Patrick Sadler, visited Givens Violins today at our new location! Lisa was absolutely instrumental in helping us navigate our move, speaking up for us in various arenas and raising awareness of our company’s long history and investment in the Minneapolis community. Today, we thanked Lisa for her hard work and interest in helping Claire Givens Violins remain downtown, and for being such a wonderful representative for Ward 7!

Andrew Dipper has prepared the Fruh Stradivari gamba/cello to be played October 17, in a special concert by the Sioux City Orchestra named “a Night at the Museum”. This concert represents a rare opportunity to hear a number of the exquisite instruments from the collections of the National Music Museum in Vermillion, SD.

Claire was invited by the Metropolitan Museum in NYC to write on their blog about the collector, Laurence Witten.  In 1967 he purchased the famous cello named “The King” by Andrea Amati which is now owned by the National Music Museum but on view at the Met until 9/8/15.  Look at the previous blogs to hear Josh Koestenbaum of the SPCO play it and talk about the experience and Andrew Dipper who has studied this cellos history for years.  http://www.metmuseum.org/about-the-museum/museum-departments/curatorial-departments/musical-instruments/of-note/2015/laurence-witten-king-cello

Congratulations to the Minnesota Orchestra on a wildly successful trip to Cuba! It was truly an historic and monumental event and we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations is also due for the Orchestra’s renewal of their contract through the 2019-2020 season…21 months ahead of schedule!
