'“Oh look, the bins are full. I’d better forgo buying a cartoned sandwich, a packet of crisps, a bagged flapjack and a can of coke for my lunch today.” thought no one ever.'

Stunning. Powerful. Pretty deep too.

Old story, but what a great example of systems thinking in action. Happy trees, happy goats, happy pollinators and zero waste. Low tech, simple, wonderful.

Learning a bit about this company (Riversimple) has led me to finally get my butt into action and create this Community. Aside from the launch of their new hydrogen car the Rasa, and the service-over-ownership model they're selling, they seem to apply 'whole system design' to everything they're doing. So inspiring, check them out: http://riversimple.com/mobility-at-zero-cost-to-the-planet/
We've designed our business from scratch - to flip sustainability from a cost, into a competitive advantage.

"Not all things that become ‘waste’, either now or in the future, are likely to be amenable to approaches any more circular than recycling. But what are the prospects for moving further up the waste hierarchy in waste future? How should a waste company engage with a system that is genuinely seeking to prevent waste, and where the aim is to keep resources in the chain of utility for as long as possible?"
"Within a successful circular economy there will still be plenty of consumption. There will still be materials and products to be collected, but they might be collected for different purposes, and so the logistics of doing so are likely to become very different from today’s familiar waste industry. But how we consume – what the products are like, who owns them, and what happens to them after we have finished with them – seems destined to change."

Screengrab of Wikipedia's page on Food Waste. Someone needs to get in there and add 'Gleaning', and initiatives like +FareShare UK, http://foodcycle.org.uk and Bristol's http://foodroutelocal.org and http://www.surplussupperclub.org. All doing important work towards reducing food waste whilst feeding people.

Because we do have a mindful Christmas in our house, I tend to assume that everyone else does too. The stats in this post are an eye-opener!
£2.4 BILLION!!! Between unwanted gifts and food we don't eat, that's what we spend on filling our bins over Christmas. http://eseworld.uk.com/11-ways-towards-a-mindful-merrry-christmas/ #reduce #reuse #recycle
