I don't post a lot in Google. I don't post a lot anywhere these days, with work keeping me busy. My free time focus is on my writing.

I have four short stories online at - search by my name at the site and you'll see them. They're free to read and Kings River Life is a great place for new short stories every week. Two earlier short stories are at Each is 99 cents.

The short stories are an excellent exercise in writing concisely and they keep my name out there as an author while I'm working on my novels. One is written and awaiting revision/editing. The other is about 1/3 written and is being worked on with a critique group, which slows the process considerably but produces a better book - it takes about the same amount of time as just writing it all and then spending a year revising/editing.

I have a third in mind, with the plot barely sketched in my mind. All three novels are linked, so I'm planning this carefully. Two books should be ready for submittal to publishers while I work on the third.

That's why you don't hear a lot from me. It doesn't mean I am not thinking about my friends and former colleagues. It just means that with family, work, and writing, my life is very full and online time is limited.

Having a good life with loved ones, a meaningful job, and a serious writing commitment is emotionally fulfilling. I hope you find fulfillment in your life, too.

I'd love to retire and have time to reread the entire series again, including The Silmarillion. I haven't visited these in many, many years.

October was good to me. My Halloween short story, A Grave Development, placed third in a competition and is now posted at

Also, my favorite warm-me-up and easy-peasy recipe for Black Beans and Brown Rice appears in the collection, "We'd Rather Be Writing: 88 Authors..." available from Amazon at Only $.99 for the ebook version. In fact, I'm making it today to bring to a party for an appetizer.

I recently did a new cover for this short story, Mother's Mountain, and thought it was time to remind people that the story is there, along with another story of mine, Tug-of-War.

Let me know what you think if you do purchase and read either of them.

Did Paul Ryan help the country accidentally?

"Candidates must be called out on their lies, right away, and over and over again."

"Of course, Ryan's speech had something to do with that. His disregard for the truth was simply spectacular. Fox News' Sally Kohn called the speech "an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech." The Washington Post's Melinda Hennenberger wrote, "As I listened to Paul Ryan, I couldn't remember ever hearing an acceptance speech so rich in untrue un-facts." "

Cancun Underwater Museum (MUSA), Mexico

Opened to the public in November 2009, the Cancun Underwater Museum features more than 400 life-size sculptures sitting on the sea floor in 28 feet of water. It's a museum without walls, and each work of art is made from pH neutral clay that encourages the growth of corals and attracts sea life so the sculptures will grow and change over time.

Artist Jason de Caires Taylor plans to add 63 new pieces to the museum this July, including a kinetic sculpture boasting wings made of living fan coral and The Listener, which features an underwater device that projects nearby sounds. MUSA is accessible to divers and snorkelers.
