Sedentary Behavior Linked To Higher Risk Of Certain Cancers.
TIME (6/17, Park) reports on its website that research published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute suggests that individuals “who spend more hours of the day sitting have up to a 66% higher risk of developing certain types of cancer than those who aren’t as sedentary.” Investigators analyzed data from 43 studies. The researchers found that “sedentary behavior was associated with a 24% greater risk of developing colon cancer, a 32% higher risk of endometrial cancer, and a 21% increased risk of lung cancer.”
On its website, NBC News (6/17, Fox) reports that the researchers “found no link between amount of time spent sitting and other types of cancer, including prostate cancer, breast cancer and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.”
HealthDay (6/17, Goodman) reports that “the risks remained even for ‘active couch potatoes’ – folks who squeeze in some time at the gym but still spend most of their day off their feet,” which “suggests that regular exercise can’t offset the risks of too much sitting, the study authors said.”www.urologiavida.com.br
