The miniaturization of electronic devices and components has increased the complexity of devices and also given rise to more #EMI problems.

The increased complexity of devices poses a serious challenge to implementation of #EMC #shielding solutions.

A Minnesota man gets severe electrical burns from an off-brand phone charger with a counterfeit UL Mark.

A tough lesson to learn you get what you paid for.
A Twin Cities man is still recovering after an off-brand cell phone charger left him with a severe electrical burn, but agencies are now warning that counterfeit products can look an awful lot like legitimate ones.

Static electricity results from an unequal (positive and negative) charge between two objects. Some people are more sensitive to static shocks than others. For most people, threshold for feeling shocks is in the range of 2kV-4kV. Dry air humidity encourages static charge build-up.

Try these tips to reduce or prevent static electricity shocks:
- Raise the air humidity with a humidifier.
- Wear cotton clothes. They are comfortable and usually give no static problems.
- Wear shoes with leather soles.
- Limit contact between moving bodies. Dragging your feet along the carpet encourages static electricity buildup.
- Hold a key and touch something conductive with it (like metals or water, or other people), to discharge the static electricity painlessly before you touch things by hand.

On 29/March/2014, the #European   #Commission  published recasts of 8 #CE  marking directives. Here are 3 that changed:

#EMC  Directive is now 2014/30/EU (previously 2004/108/EC)
Low Voltage Directive ( #LVD ) is now 2014/35/EU (previously 2006/95/EC)
#ATEX  Directive is now 2014/34/EU (previously 94/9/EC)

The new directives enter into force on 19/April/2014, and Member States have until 20/April/2016 to amend their national legislation, as the old directives will be repealed then.

The New EMC Directive 2014/30/EU

The New EMC Directive 2014/30/EU has recently been published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU,29/3/2014). The new provisions will be enforced on 20th April 2016 with no transition period; instead all Member States have to enact the new legislation into National Law by 19th April 2016. 2014/30/EU replaces the previous Directive 2004/108/EC which repealed 89/336/EEC.

The new Directive addresses some of its predecessor's ambiguities and makes clear that its jurisdiction relates to products when they are first placed on the market or put into service, this includes second-hand equipment if it has not previously been placed on the market in the EU.

The new Directive can be downloaded from: http://bit.ly/Pq76gk
