Congratulations to our own Jon Gottschalk for being recognized for his Fort4Fitness pace group idea. 

“There are two leaders in each group,” Gottschalk said. “One will probably be more focused on pace while the other will be having a great time. I know last year I was high-fiving the police on traffic duty and other volunteers. It's a long way to run, so a little distraction is good sometimes.”

A Simple Online Crowdfunding Solution

Sometimes people come to us looking for a simple solution to raise funds online. Sure, we can build full on eCommerce solutions or setup a simple solution with PayPal or Google checkout, but often that is way more than you need.

That is when some turn to Kickstarter or Indiegogo, which are great potential solutions, but often still overkill.

Facebook has introduced a new tool for finding conversations about a specific topic based on hashtags, embedded posts, and trending topics. Note specifically that this is not limited to hashtags.

Will this cause you to rethink what you share publicly on Facebook?

Facebook just changed the game, again. They just relaxed the rules for contests and promotion on pages by removing the requirement to use apps.

This will make it easy, and inexpensive, for page owners to create contests. Unfortunately, it will make it easy for page owners to be lax with planning and follow-through as well.

Please take a moment to read this post, including the pdf linked under "promotion guidelines" and then consider carefully how to wield this new power. Let us know if you need help.

Borrowing or Piggybacking on Other Brands' Marketing ... Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Our own +Derek Pillie received this in an email and noticed something right away. Note that this brand is "borrowing" from Geico's recent success with the "Hump Day" commercial. We all got a big chuckle out of it, but it is an interesting and potentially problematic tactic.

1) Some won't get it because they have not seen, or don't recall the reference.
2) They are inviting the client to associate their brand with positive or negative connotations of the commercial, and the other brand.
3) There may be negative feelings of using another brands idea.

By and large, we think it works here. What do you think?
