Sometimes, when in Second Life, you may well be looking for all the fun of the fair but with a darker theme and that’s exactly what you’ll find if you visit The World Goth Fair, which opened on May 15th and runs until June 1st.

The Fairelands of Fantasy Faire 2015 will soon disappear as if by magic. All the events are over, the vendors have been packing up and we’ve all been going home. The event was of course part of the Relay For Life fundraising effort in Second Life, for the American Cancer Society. In terms of that fundraising effort Fantasy Faire 2015 has so far raised L$ 7,627,066, which amounts to a very impressive US$ 30,508. This is a record breaking effort so thank you to everyone who contributed to and promoted this fundraising.

New Blog Post - I feel authors may be missing a trick by not embracing virtual worlds. The way the land lies, it looks like virtual worlds will grow in the future and this gives authors not only the chance to promote their work in virtual worlds, it also gives them the opportunity to meet their fans all over the world.
I attended the literature festival at Fantasy Faire today and it was rather a joy to behold. The session I attended was an Open Mic session whereby participants who were brave enough, could take centre stage and share their own personal stories, poetry and even Haiku.

Fantasy Faire 2015 Blog Post - I attend the literature festival but ensure I don't get too engrossed that I avoid fiendish Elves trying to break into song!
There I was, wandering through a wooded area of Sylvan Of Spells when I heard voices in the distance. Fearing that this was a clandestine meeting of Elves planning on unleashing their songs on Fant...

Blog Post - When the news broke that VICE reporter Cecilia D’Anastasio was looking to hear from Second Life residents regarding avatar identity I was somewhat sceptical. My concerns were largely due to the way the wider media have reported on Second Life in the past and the way the wider media seem to like to be economic with the truth all too often these days.

However, my scepticism was definitely misplaced as Cecilia’s article is actually quite touching and respectful. The article, simply titled, Avatar IRL, looks into what Lisa Nakamura called, Identity tourism. However as we see from Cecilia’s article, avatars are not merely a mirror of ourselves, they can also be taken away from the keyboards with us.

SL Go may be dead but resourceful OSGrid user Nebandon Izumi has managed to cloud stream a virtual world experience using OnLook viewer and Amazon AppStream.

All my colleagues at +SeanchaiLibrary would most likely also kick in with a big A-Men to this, Ciaran!  This is what we have been doing, with various degrees of immersion, for over seven years.  People are still amazed, surprised, and delighted when they engage in a virtual story experience.  Go figure!
