How to install an HP LasterJet 1000 series printer on a Mac
This post will explain how I managed to install my 13-year-old HP LasterJet 1000 series printer on my MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2. I feel like I'm on familiar territory here with HP's lack of legacy support for peripherals such as scan...

How to fix "GfxUI has stopped working" in Windows Vista
Annoying, isn't it? Recently when fixing my friend's laptop - a battered old Acer Aspire 5738Z running Windows Vista - I kept seeing the "GfxUI has stopped working" error every time Windows booted up. I did the usual thing of Googling for a solution, but no...

New year's resolutions for 2015
I don't believe in setting new year's resolutions that you don't want to do. Why make life a struggle? On Christmas Day I watched the first episode of Grayson Perry: Who Are You? at bedtime. It set my brain on fire. In my insomnia, I jotted down the followi...

Tim Tebow, Bill Belichick and why it works for the Pats

Think there can't be any good reason for the New England Patriots to sign Tim Tebow to a contract? Think again. Around the League weighs in

I was really pleased with the price of the item I bought online - a Withings Smart Body Analyzer (WS-50-Black). I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else on the internet. It's not the best-looking site I've ever seen. There was a slight confusion over my delivery address. I thought I had specified it clearly enough in my order, but they called me up the next working day to confirm it. The checkout process was simple enough. I could have had slightly more confidence had the website looked more up-to-date. The person I dealt with on the phone to confirm my delivery address was pleasant and the call didn't last too long. I'm not sure if I'd ever have reason to shop here again. I probably wouldn't go there voluntarily, but if they had the best price for the item I was interested in, I would certainly consider it. The item arrived packed securely and in good condition. It was also didn't take very long from order to delivery. I would have liked to know that if I found the product cheaper anywhere else, they would have refunded the difference. The smart scale itself is excellent. I weigh myself more regularly (most mornings) and the data syncs automatically with my iPhone. I can even weight my cat, although I have to hold the cat and then subtract my weight to find the difference. I was hoping I'd be able to weigh my cat on the scales by itself, but it doesn't appear to register at such low weights (less than 5kg).

Terrible, slow, confused service from a restaurant that regularly serves lunch to large groups at the end of Free Walking Tours. Clueless waiters and management. Food was below average for UK but average from what I've experienced so far in Brazil.

I saved 45% on repair costs, saving me at least £345.12! Toyota Inchcape Oxford recommended repairs estimated at £1,399.62 (£1,259.66 with a 10% discount on their service plan) after the 90,000 miles / 9 years intermediate service for my 2004 Toyota Yaris. French & Italian spent 15 minutes taking a look at my car first thing on a Saturday morning and recommended repairs that cost me £427.65 in total, which they completed by 15:00 the following Monday. Some of the recommendations Toyota Inchcape made were unnecessary "advisory" repairs. To get exactly the same repairs done by Toyota would have cost £858.63 (£772.77 with 10% off). French & Italian's advice about what repairs were actually necessary was invaluable and helped me to rationalize my decision. French & Italian's labour costs are £55/hour, about half the cost of franchise dealers like Toyota Inchcape. I used a courtesy car (Citroen Xsara Picasso Estate 1.6i LX 5dr), which was a bit messy inside, didn't have any windscreen washer fluid and the left front side light didn't work. I'd thoroughly recommend using French & Italian to get a second opinion if your franchise dealer's repair costs seem too expensive. I may even switch to using them for my service, MOT and repairs from now on.

We ordered lunch from here at work. I collected it shortly after 08:30. It was great value at £4.50 for a lunch box full of yummy Lebanese food, some flat bread, two meat pastry parcels, and a complimentary sweet. I don't usually like baklava, but these were delicious! I hope we order from here again soon!

Terrible service, bland food (the menu has pictures - always a bad sign) and the main dish on the menu was not available. My friends were served uncooked fish (and it wasn't supposed to be sushi!). Too much fried food. One poor (incompetent) waiter to serve over 40 people. Took hours to get served. Very frustrating and disappointing place to eat. Avoid.
