New, by me. Quora let this get out of control, and they're not doing anything about it. Some of these stories will shock you. It's all vile.

Do people have thoughts on ConFoo? I see that their call for proposals is up, and was debating submitting to them, but I've never heard of them before.

Thank you, Amazon, for sending me an email recommending to me that I read a book that I wrote.

Similar to one of my favorite feelings: reading through something, saying "damn this is a great resource", only to realize that you wrote it.

I've had several of these moments today. Like, "Wow, I wrote a paper on this?"

I gotta tell you all, I'm getting very tired of seeing people promoting their work as open source when there is no actual open source code being released, or worse, code being released without an open source license attached.

It's getting to be a real pain in my ass. A great number of projects, gists, blog entries which seem so very inviting are simply not to be copied. Remember, if you don't see an open source license, you cannot use that code unless you arrange a license with that developer.

Also, almost every real open source license has very clear rules as to what a  user can do to them and still say they are using them. If you add a clause to the GPL license, for instance, that says "And you agree to send me a mink coat every time a user downloads this library" or "This is under the GPL except you must also pray for the rights of the elbonian revolutionaries." then that gpl license , which has specific rules about additional restrictions  is no longer the same free software license and, now that it is changed in that manner, is not an osi approved license.

Protect yourself, look for and read, skim even, the license attached to the code you wish to use. You'll thank yourself later.

Fuck it. Switched to iTerm2 today.

Terminal.app has had one big issue for me on Mountain Lion that I have not been able to solve: randomly, for about ~10 seconds, the Terminal app will show the spinny wheel of doom. This happens many times a day. Today, it was so bad that I could no longer type without getting a spinny wheel. So, bye bye Terminal.app
