Excellent piece of history here. Wonder how long did they kept that going for?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that the titular baby dragon in this is voiced by the future director of Wreck-It Ralph and the upcoming Zootopia, Rich Moore!

+Marc Baker I guess for you it's more a thing of there being such a design clash in these shows.

I remember first seeing this one many, many years ago from a video release called "Animation Celebration Vol. 4", based on a touring festival series of animated shorts at the time. This one stuck out to me for it's lush color design and unique approach to what I consider an obvious gag cartoon to make for such a comical subject. I did like the obvious hint at the end that the knight's effort might not be in vain after all (assuming his child manages to find another line of work).

This tends to be one of those people often see on it's own and not know why it was made or the context of it's use, simply because it was a piece of a larger collaborated effort.

I may have to troll through some archives to get a hold of the original film in its entirety, because it would be interesting to compare how these very different artists (Jan Švankmajer and Tezuka on the same programme together!!) interpret the concept of ‘self portrait’.

You do get quite a lot of different interpretations in the film as a whole. Candy Kugel's submission for example is probably the most direct way of saying "Yes, I'm an animator", though you could probably read something else in her clip that perhaps I never noticed.

David Ehrlich’s Animated Self Portraits (1989), as I mentioned in the previous post, features 19 artists from 5 countries exploring their identities as artists through the medium of animation. With the entire film reportedly ...

Some thoughts...

I think the reason Silvana isn't included in the Issue 9 cover is because she's technically a villain and this cover is meant to show the good guys anyway.

I think the schools in CWCville is situated as an entire consolidated complex of sorts, with primary, middle and high schools within the vicinity, if that's what we're suppose to figure out from this. The university is probably a junior college anyway. I thought of this place I know just up in Michigan...

The Barbara/Robert dolls are named after Chris' parents. The use of dolls the way they appear to be using in this class reminded more of the use of flour sacks as babies in a parenting class.

Layla Flaffy, much like Megagi and Jiggliami, is another fan-submitted character, who's name was originally "Luckette", but Chris, being who he is, wouldn't leave well enough alone (as we seen with Simonla).

Simonla's username is a reference to the video game "Dig Dug", if you didn't notice.

Also, yes, what the f--k is wrong with Chris?

That "Fox News" clip might just be from a local station and not a network, as FOX did own a number of key stations at that time through News Corp's acquisition of the Metromedia stations. I believe this was from station KTTV in LA. It would be another three years before "Fox News Channel" started but stations were already using the "Fox" moniker in their local station branding and newscasts at the time.
