"Old Harbor Cliffs" 30x40cm pastel on panel
painted en plein air 8/10/2016
It was lovely day down by the Old Harbor in Hermanus. Once again I was fascinated by the colors in the ocean and the contrasting textures of the cliffs. The afternoon sun provided the drama with it's warm light creating raking shadows.

Have you ever wished you could draw? Like reading, drawing is a skill that can be learned. Drawing is the foundation of all art. Absolute beginners and established painters can benefit from this course. No experience is necessary.

Christopher Reid is an internationally recognized artist with numerous awards. Born in Gauteng, South Africa, Reid studied at The Savannah College Of Art & Design in the US and returned to South Africa in 2015. He lives in Hermanus. View his portfolio online at http://ReidsArt.com/

This drawing workshop is the first in a series of workshops that will progress from drawing to advanced color theory and painting. Classes are from 2pm-4pm Monday August 1st through Thursday August 4th.

I'll be exhibiting with the Rosebank Art Precinct the 20th-25th of April at the Crowne Plaza Rosebank Hotel in Johannesburg. Mark your calendar and drop in to view the artwork and say hello. I plan to paint on location some of those days and you might end up as my model for a portrait. See you there! :)

"Look At That Squirrel!" 18x24" pastel on panel
painted 1/17/2016
After working in other media for dozens of paintings, it was so nice to be using pastel today. I love pastel! I finished this before lunch

I put together a free tutorial showing my process step-by-step for this painting. See it at http://reidsart.com/tutorials.html and let me know what you think.

This painting is of our cat, Moose, who likes to watch squirrels out the back window. He has woken me up, chewed on my sandals, typed on my MacBook, walked on my paintings, and even bitten me pretty badly (earning him the nickname "Cat Dracula"). But he is still a lovable kitty.
