Makoto Shinkai's film Kimi no na wa (Your Name) has some good songs, but background music that's less than memorable. Here's what I thought in my review: http://blog.animeinstrumentality.net/2017/01/kimi-no-na-wa-your-name-soundtrack-review/

Got a chance to play Tikal last week and I really loved the area control mechanics.  Followed that up with some Tigris and Euphrates, a game that still gives me fits because I haven't figured the optimal strategies and seem to have bad timing when it comes to wars. http://www.myboardgameguides.com/blog/loved-my-introduction-to-tikal-still-puzzling-over-tigris-and-euphrates/
One of my gaming friends joked that I’d be blogging about yesterday’s game night. To prove him right, here’s the rundown of what happened:

A fun weekend board game afternoon/evening playing Star Wars Imperial Assault, El Grande, and 7 Wonders Duel!
I’ve had Star Wars Imperial Assault for awhile now. Ever since I got it on the cusp of the New Year, it’s sat in the corner of my gaming room unplayed. But not untouched. I’d look…

A brief rundown of the games I played over Christmas. During this session, the games I played for the very first time included: El Grande, Codenames, and Five Tribes. Also played Agricola, mostly because it's a staple of that particular group and a game we really enjoy highly.
I’ve previously told you about my gaming group that consists of my coworkers. But in addition to that group, I also play in a group of seasoned gamers which includes my brother, his roommate,…

Hey everyone, I have a different kind of question for you all:

With the holidays coming up, I'm looking for some board game-related shirts as gifts for friends in my game group. Curious whether there are any sites outside the usual cafepress type of sites that any of you use. For that matter, are there any designs that you all especially like?

Thanks everyone for all your help getting me in the right direction. Looks like there is a lot to sort through, but it looks like I can find a shirt that fits my friends' gaming preferences!

Amanchu's OP theme is one that I'll listen to always instead of skipping. Maaya Sakamoto's voice is wonderful. http://blog.animeinstrumentality.net/2016/08/amanchu-op-single-million-clouds-review/

Finally completed my first game of Food Chain Magnate. Game lives up to the hype, and then some. I can see this climbing up my favorites list with more plays since there's so many paths to explore and that I really really love my economic games!

Setting up a time is right. I think my 4p game was somewhere in the ballpark of 3-3.5 hours.

Anyone checked out Dragon Hazard's Kickstarter? It's a coop game where players team up to defeat a dragon.  Their selling points appears to be that the minis are pretty decent, it's a popular fantasy miniatures game from Japan, and that you can finish a game in less than an hour.  Thoughts? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/studio34/dragon-hazard-the-saviors-of-havinia
Dragon Hazard: The Saviors of Havinia is a cooperative board game where your team must defeat a dragon rampaging the countryside!

Long weekend gave me an opportunity to play Star Wars Imperial Assault and El Grande, and teach 7 Wonders Duel. Takeaway for the evening: We definitely need to kick the Imperial Assault campaign into gear and make it a regular thing!

I hadn't realized the game was in such high demand, but really glad in retrospect that I got my order in.  The game has been a huge revelation in terms of its easy-to-explain gameplay mechanics and the whole mindgames aspect of turn order and card selection.  With time, El Grande will definitely rocket up to my top 5? We'll see, since it looks really likely!
