Some say New Orleans should never have come back, certainly some of its residents never did. As bad as Hurricane Katrina was, it was just another catastrophe in long line of others that New Orleans had to endure. Just like a tragic drama, without the tragedies you don't have a story. Without the tragedy and the sordid history New Orleans becomes Cleveland or Boise. Take a trip back with a man who seems to understand what it is that makes New Orleans authentic.

I've been wasting far too much time being a generalist. Even Seth Godin has said the world now requires that the best, maybe the best in the world, at what it is you do. If you want to work at +National Geographic , that is what's required!
Examining the diversity of the group represented on thephotosociety.org (a site I created for all the National Geographic photographers) is the easiest way to answer the question, “How do I become a National Geographic photographer?” I usually answer this question by saying: “It is not easy or ...

After picking up some cookbooks at the library, I stopped at the grocery store to get a prepared meal. When I approached the back of the store I was immediately aware of that familiar aroma of spices that indicate boiled seafood. As I got closer to the case I realized there was fresh boiled crawfish available. The decision for what to have for lunch could not have been easier.

It could be decades before we realize the full extent of the spill's damage.
The BP oil spill was gushing in late May 2010 when ;LSU graduate student Xuan Chen found himself on ;an ;Alabama beach collecting acrobat ants. Chen was one in an army of scientists probing an urgent public question: Was the spill destroying the...

I'm glad to see +Robert Scoble back. I have Scoble to thank for a lot of things. I remember watching Scoble livestream on Qik with a Nokia N95 back in 206 after Hurricane Katrina. It lead to me chance meeting with +Alan Gutierrez  and an unconference in New Orleans at the New Orleans marina.
That lead to a few years of blogging, which lead to decision to go back to college in 2009 and study internet marketing and then a masters in journalism in 2012.
I joined Twitter because of Scoble and Google+, and I'll give him credit for Facebook too, but I honestly don't remember why I joined Facebook.
I remember I called him once to see if he would speak at conference we were having. He was so nice to a complete stranger calling him on his cell.
I really hope one day I can meet in person and thank him face to face.

I'm a huge fan of Fleurty Girl shirts and know the owner, Lauren Thom, but this store lacks the feel or vibe that the original Oak street store or French Quarter stores have. If you live or work in Metairie and want a cool NOLA themed shirt this is the place to go but just know you aren't getting the full experience unless you visit the FQ store.

If you are looking for fried or boiled seafood this is the place to go. Fried oysters, fried shrimp, fried catfish, fried redfish, fried soft-shelled crabs, boiled shrimp, and my favorite boiled crawfish. All the staples of a Louisiana seafood feast are here.

Hansen's Snoballs are unlike any other snoball I've ever had. The ice mixed with syrup is almost like yogurt. There is just something about the way the ice is ground that no one else can seem to duplicate. I've been going here since I was 6 or 7 years old, so almost 35 years. The only change I've noticed recently is a little less syrup in the snoballs, unless Ashley is working. She learned under her grandparents and is definitely keeping up the family tradition of quality first.

I really don't understand what all the hoopla is about this place. It's OK but it isn't great. I guess being a NOLA native I'm not too fond of chain places and putting them in a mall even lowers the expectation. The food is good, the decor is excellent, and the service is very good. I'm just not fond of the menu.

One of the worst dining experience's I've ever had in New Orleans and I had to pay $100 for the "privilege". The decor is awesome and the waitstaff are excellent. The problem is the food sucks and it's way too expensive. My wife and I went to Tujaque's with high expectations. As one of the oldest restaurant's in town we expected it to be top notch. The only thing that was off the chart was the price. The menu choice was virtually non-existent, there was one menu with only one or two variations and I didn't like most of them. There were also no prices on the menu. I thought how bad can it be. Well after spending almost $100 and leaving hungry I'm telling you it was bad. If you want a great dining experience in New Orleans stay away from Tujague's.

I've been here at least half a dozen times. The bar is excellent and well-stocked. The food is top notch and the service is excellent. They have this macaroni and cheese dish that really takes mac and cheese to a new level, it's really incredible. This place is also a hub for the local tech community. If you want to network with some of the best and brightest in the city stop by happy hour at Capdeville.

I grew up around the corner from The Bakery (the original Koz's) in Gentilly. I was so happy to hear that they reopened, and closer to me in Metairie. The Red Beans on Monday is incredible. It's so creamy and full of flavor. I've given up trying to duplicate it at home. The fried shrimp and oysters are pretty awesome too. I will warn you in advance, if you go here for lunch be prepared for a line. Koz customers are almost addicted to the place and need to visit at least once a week for lunch.
