Ooyala strongly believes in Infrastructure as Code and has recently begun extending this to our network infrastructure as well. To help facilitate this we have developed a set of Chef cookbooks which help lay the foundation to automating and testing Cumulus switches with Chef.

Windows... No getting around it - its a beast compared to the size of its linux step sibling. When I hear colleagues complaining about pulling down a couple hundred MB to get their linux vagrant box up and running, I feel like a third world scavenger of disk space while they whine about their first world 100mb problems. Google calls them “sustained-use discounts,” and they address the very problem that cloud customers have most complained about in the past. If their cloud workloads are consistent, the customers say, it makes more economic sense to buy and operate their own machines."

Last week, Amazon launched the ability to turn on per-request logging in Elastic Load Balancers (ELBs). This is a much sought-after feature that many users have been asking about for some time now, and finally it is here. However, logging is only half of the battle. Once you have the logs you have to do something with them in order to be able to figure out if there are any problems that need addressing or improvements that can be mad...
