We have just published a new report on the venture philanthropists, the 254 people who run venture philanthropy in the UK.

This is a growth sector - income of the sector is 221% up compared with 2011, when we last reported. And more organisations are benefiting - we list more than 150.

The #Snowden  allegations have made me really grumpy. If they are true, then the Government has undermined years of work, debate and effort by prospect researchers to protect privacy. I've written a diatribe to the Information Commissioner.
Dear Mr Graham. It must be tough being the Information Commissioner today. This morning's newspaper will be a crumpled mess on your breakfast table after you read more of the revealing allegations from Edward Snowden. The Government that pays you to keep our private stuff private has also been ...

Xarcuter Mullol - I visited yesterday - is a fourth-generation pork butcher (the current owner's great-grandfather started the business in 1917.) The pork is locally sourced, and is turned into a huge range of pork products - try his "pa de fetge" (pork liver paté, Pyrenean style) which is excellent and one of five different varieties of traditional paté that he makes. His cured ham - Mullol use a specific curing technique - is also excellent - more moist and less salty than the commercial varieties.

A friendly, clean straightforward hotel that keeps its one-star official rating but would easily qualify for four. We had a balcony room with a view over the terrace to the sea.

We had very good pizzas here, last night, with an excellent carpaccio de bacallao (cod), and very attentive, friendly service. A good place to see a bit of Barcelona's active street life.

I had a great meal here last night. Friendly, helpful, proprietor, a good menu and reasonable prices. Portion size is good too, enough to feel full without overdoing it.
