Brand New Cover for "Stolen Magic"
I've been working with a cover artist for about a week and the result is something I'm really excited about. I can't wait to share it with everyone!

Now that school is back in session, I've spent a lot of time thinking about Common Core and it's effect on my kid. And I've concluded that it is helping kids. http://live-christina-zastrow.pantheon.io/content/common-core-helping
There's been a lot going on in the world of equality these last few weeks. A lot that hit mainstream news. A lot that was interesting and vital. But this week there was one that has stuck with me this week. And it's not my normal topics of "women are people, too" or "treat other people like ...

Every generation or so, we change how we teach math, and it royally pisses off and frustrates the previous generation.

Trans Women Are Women Too
I’m a fan of Facebook. I don’t sign on to follow my friends, I talk to them in real life. I sign on to follow dozens of article sharing pages- BBC History, NPR, The Writer’s Circle, a couple dozen authors I enjoy, and about a dozen feminist groups (I’m sure that comes as a total shock!). But this week I had to unfollow a “feminist” group.
Glamour Magazine appointed Caitlyn Jenner “Woman of the Year”. And this group I had followed was furious.
Now, I understand why some people get irritated that “after a life of male privilege” Caitlyn is coming out as a woman. I even understand why people might suspect this whole thing is a ploy to get the same attention given to the rest of the Kardashian crowd. But those are the ideas of people who have always been comfortable in their own bodies, at least as far as gender goes.
Before this happened, I hadn’t really noticed this group’s use of MTT/FTT (male/female to transgender) rather than MTF/FTM (male to female/female to male) when speaking about transgender people. But after several posts in a row, it caught my attention. The thing is, I’ve done a lot of reading and I have friends who are transgender and almost everyone agrees that the TT (to trans) is dehumanizing. It boils a person down to nothing but the fact that they are transgender instead of a person who happens to be transgender.
So, seeing those MTTs over and over again in a stream of posts and articles, drove me to really look at the group’s page and consider if I wanted to continue to follow them. And I noticed among the posts that were pro-Planned Parenthood, anti-rape culture, and educational about issues that I care about, there was a distinct prejudice against trans people. The TT issue wasn’t just not knowing the preferred language, it was not caring because this group doesn't think of transgender people as people.
An MTF trans person is a woman, a woman who has dealt with just as many body image issues as I’ve had my entire life. She’s in a body that feels wrong to her, and isn’t that exactly what the media is telling every woman? And FTM deals with the exact same body image issues as me, and then on top of all of that, is in the wrong body.
A recent study reports, “current data suggests a biological etiology for transgender identity”, that is, a biological cause for being transgender. Being transgender is not a phase, and it’s not a ploy for attention. Someone who is MTF is just as much a woman as me. Prejudice against her is misogyny and I’m disappointed that a “feminist” group would be advocating misogyny.

I don't believe in jealousy. Or the mystical "ONE". For me, those are myths that keep us from accepting different lifestyles. http://live-christina-zastrow.pantheon.io/content/polyamory-myths
My boyfriend and I are polyamorous. For us that means we have permission to pursue if we find someone else interesting. It doesn't happen often because we both have high standards and if I'm going to spend time away from him, the other person has to be pretty damn special.

Wouldn't full equality be a nice follow up to marriage equality?
http://live-christina-zastrow.pantheon.io/content/not-just-marriage-equality-actual-equality
In Stolen Magic I wanted to make a world that doesn't care about who you love. I wanted to make a world that would let you be who you are and no one would care. At least, not historically. Adhira's adoptive mothers are in a monogamous, homosexual relationship. Isam and Ayati are in an evolving ...
