Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles, California
I think this is my favorite photo from a wonderful night spent with and when I was visiting LA a couple weeks ago. And it was a TOTAL mistake!
We'd made our way up to the rooftop and I was just getting my camera set up to capture the moon setting when I accidentally hit the shutter button. I did not have ANY clue what the exposure was set at or what composition I had as I had literally just gotten the tripod placed on the floor.
But it turned out awesome! I have a bit of a fascination with ghost people moving in the frame, so that really excited me. And it was somehow magically focused! And not over or under exposed! Maybe I should always take my pictures this way. Or not...I guess we just get lucky sometimes. Hey! I'll take it where I can get it!

03/26 - Tools of the Trade
I am not a painter, but I have painted. Since I took photos of my own tools for week 1 of this project, I chose my friend's tools instead.
I decided to go out on a pretty thick limb for processing this picture (meaning it was different for me, but still pretty safe). For the first time since I got it, I chose NOT to use Silver Efex!!! I did everything manually in Lightroom and Photoshop. It was fun. Baby steps. I still don't have much of a clue what I'm doing, but it was interesting to see what the different sliders did to the image in black and white. :)

NOT MY PHOTO!! Nope. This belongs to the magnificent .
Meerkats will forever remind me of you, dear Robin! You exemplify their fun loving spirit, intense focus, ability to get things done, and unwavering determination. Not to mention the compassion, patience, loving support, and encouragement that you embody as a human being!!
Your ability to see the best in all of us never ceases to amaze me. You are truly an inspiration to soooo many, myself included. I feel blessed and honored to call you friend and I can't tell you how very grateful I am that we are in each other's orbits. It is indeed a small world, is it not? ;)
And on this very special day, the anniversary of the day you breathed in life for the first time, I salute you with this, an Irish blessing (because I love them so):
May love and laughter light your days
May good and faithful friends be yours wherever you may roam
May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures
May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours
Wishing you a most joyous birthday, Robin. I love you much!!! Hugs to you. :D
My mom was just diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It's advanced far enough that chemo and radiation do not offer a cure or remission. Her doctor has recommended a clinic in Mexico which offers some experimental, yet successful, therapies which are the best hope to save her life.
I've created a fundraiser to help pay for the cost of the treatment. I really don't like soliciting donations to be honest, but this is my mom I'm talking about saving and I'm committed to doing what I can to raise the money. So I'm going out on a limb and sharing this with my G+ family.
All the relevant details on her condition and the facility are in the link. Any help from prayers and good thoughts to financial are all so greatly appreciated. And please share if you feel so compelled. That is also greatly appreciated.
Thank you guys!!! XOXOXO

02/26 - Macro
For processing, I chose to add a fair amount of grain to this photo becuase it reminded me of days gone by. I guess the fonts, the colors of the letters (which, of course you can't see, but I can! :p), and my dark plastic rim glasses lent themselves to this impression. I couldn't help but think of a world that existed decades ago.
In case you don't recognize the quote, it is:
"Always do what you are afraid to do"
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
What a smart man...I'm adopting this as my mantra for 2015. I've made it official.

01/26 - New Beginnings
I always love the New Year. Like so many the world over, I have such a feeling of hope and renewed energy in all things Life at this time of year.
Rebirth. Renewal. New beginnings. All that stuff.
This year is not so different from previous years in that regard. However, my goal is to maintain the forward momentum throughout the year, which is very unlike the past. I have had a passionate love affair with the big P - and I'm not talking that big P (you're so naughty!). No, I'm talking about Procrastination. Perfectionism. Pick your poison. They both result in the same outcome, which is a whole lot of nothing.
So this year, photographically speaking, my main goal is to get down to business. I'm pulling up my big girl pants and focusing on mastering the technological wonders I have at my disposal - namely Photoshop and other digital darkroom tools.
But it's going to take breaking up with my main squeeze once and for all. I keep going back, but not this year. Nope. I'm done. I'm choosing to lovingly let go of the toxic relationship I've created.
So long, Procrastination. Sayonara, Perfectionism.
For this photo, I took the time to thoroughly clean off my desk, creating the space I need to work on my photography. I have my notebook for notes and ideas, my tablet for editing, my trusty laptop, and most importantly, my catalog of photos. Oh yeah, and a cup of calming tea to help me keep my head on straight as I do this thing. I know Tisha and Lauri can appreciate that. ;)

A black and white version of my Pantages Theater picture. I like the color one better, but I do love the bokeh I captured in it much more than anything else I've gotten this year.
