I took advantage of the Game Maker Suite Pro sale... been doing tutorials all weekend rather than actually gaming. It's much better than I expected it to be as a package. Great teaching tool too. I was having my daughter watch me on a few parts of one of the tutorials. She understands the process a bit and was pointing out variables I should try altering to see how they affect the demo that I was working on.
Anyway, if you want a flexible, easy to learn kit, that's pretty much one of the best prototyping packages I've seen in a while (can get primitives up on screen fast, fast), for $35 (regularly $99), it's really a steal.
It's on sale until March 2nd and the non-pro/standard is FREE until March 2nd (normally $50). Jump on this if you have any interest in learning about one way games are made.
By the way... Street Fighter X Megaman was developed in an older version of Game Maker.
