This latest "Hitchens Gap" (a name I just made up) has now come to an end. I look forward to the next one.

I don’t wish any ill on any fellow primate or mammal of mine, so I don’t at all look forward to the death of Joseph Ratzinger, I don’t, or any other pope, not really, except for one tiny reason which I ought to confess and share with you. When he dies, there’s quite a long interval ’til the conclave can meet, and for that whole time, that whole interval -- it is a delicious, lucid interlude -- there isn’t anyone on Earth who claims to be infallible.

I've discovered a new skill. For various reasons I needed to hand draw a map of Sydney and it turns out I have the skill of drawing children's treasure maps, complete with childlike handwriting. It's not exactly what I was going for but it'll do.

Oh wow this is something else. Try selecting a few paragraphs in this article (or any other on this site) and you'll get a popup asking you to buy a license to quote it. For instance, to quote the following two random paragraphs they want $150. (Note by the way that the second paragraph contains a quote from the Toronto Star. I wonder if they've remembered to license that quote themselves.)

The remarks have apparently incensed teachers at the school, who wrote a letter to the school board demanding a response.

“His message portrayed our school in an extremely demeaning way that was filled with untruths. We find this disgusting!” states the letter, signed The Don Bosco Staff and made public in a Toronto Star article.

Back from Kangaroo Island. What an amazing place. Cute furry animals everywhere, beautiful landscape, and very patchy mobile coverage so no distractions. I'm starting to wonder why I left again.

Say, hypothetically, a small group of people found itself in Adelaide. Does anyone have any suggestions for how best to spend an evening there?
