Happy 2014 everyone! I just wanted to personally thank you all for participating. I love seeing your screenshots and playing your demos. We're going to continue with www.onegameamonth.com next year. I can't wait to see what you make.

It's been a great year, and many thanks for being such a driving force behind this!  I managed to get 4 games in this year, that's a 400% increase from 2012!  And only 3 of them were terrible, one was just mediocre! :)   2014 may not even have 1 game in store for me, but I'm aiming at 12 playable milestones for a single something greater.

Spaces: Useful Game Object Containers
http://enva.to/1eHaGLr
The whole point of a space is to hold game objects. The game objects in one space should not have any way to communicate with the game objects in another space, so spaces provide a simple means to separate different groups of game objects. In this article, you'll learn the benefits of such an architecture.

How To Match Puzzle Shapes Using Bitmasks
http://enva.to/190fbyE
In this tutorial, I will walk you through how to analyze a board of tiles, iterate through them, and find matches. We will be creating a game where you need to connect lines together to form completely closed paths with no open ends. In order to simplify things, we will use bitmasking as part of our algorithm by assigning each tile (plus its rotation) its very own bitmask number. Don't worry if you don't know what bitmasking is. It's actually very simple!

McFunkypants: indie game developer. I try to only post about #gamedev.
Introduction
Also known as Breakdance McFunkypants, Christer Kaitila is a full time game developer, author, game jam enthusiast, amateur musician, proud dad and lead programmer at Amagam Software, an Indie Game Developer based in Victoria, Canada.

A lifelong coder, he grew up part of the old-school “demoscene” BBS culture and spent his youth in shady arcades. In university he studied AI and 3d game engines.

Nowadays he hangs out with game devs at speed-programming “game jams” and 48 hour competitions such as Ludum Dare, where he is one of the moderators and occasional host of game jams.

He has written over 50 business applications, a dozen videogames, 25 songs, two pencil-and-dice roleplaying games, and a billion really bad puns.

Author of a book on Molehill (Flash 11 Stage3D) game programming and currently working on a book about game jams.
