Newer GM here with some questions for the veterans.

First, for ranged attacks, the defender rolls 1d20p if they are moving and 1d12p if they are standing still. Do you interpret a character who is engaged in melee but otherwise mobile as "standing still" or moving?

Second, I had some difficulty explaining to players when opposed skill checks and non-opposed skill checks come into play. Some of them got it, others didn't. Does anyone have advice on how to explain that mechanic?

Thanks!

I am more for telling them what I want. When I ask for a regular check, I always tell them how difficult the task is, since 1) I really just want to know whether they had a success or not and 2) they immidiately know which roll to roll. As +Jay Rutley said: By telling them what you want, they’ll learn by doing.

Welcome to the group!

Read an email asking, "Are you ready for game day?" I thought, "Yeah, got my battlemat, minis, and all my dice..." before I realized they were probably talking about football.

Tried out the iPhone 6 Plus at my local T-Mobile store. Unless the next Nexus knocks it out of the park, I think I've found my next phone.

As far as I know, Microsoft isn't in a death spiral, but boy, do they sure act like they are.

I just got hit, too. They're going after ANYTHING with "Windows" in the title, it seems.

My video was on a completely benign topic - not a review: "Windows 7 Upgrade or Anytime Upgrade?" Video ID: kUtY1AFZGTI - and I'm the type of person who intentionally avoids music, sounds, video, images, etc.

WARN ALL THE TECH YOUTUBERS THAT THEY MIGHT WANT TO STOP TALKING ABOUT WINDOWS.

I've been spending a lot of time trying to figure out ProFantasy's "Campaign Cartographer" software. It's awesome software, but I have a feeling it's taxing my PC.

Tekserve is the best independent Apple retailer, bar none. Their shop is big, and has plenty of room to move around. You get a chance to lay your hands on all the products, and there are dedicated sections of the store to pro applications (music/video/graphic design). But what really does it for me is the retro aesthetic. From the moment you walk in, you see old Macintosh computers from the 1980s and typewriters sitting alongside superpowerful iMacs and iPads. If you are looking for an Apple product and are in the NYC area, give this place a visit. You won't be disapointed.

There is no comic book shop in the city like Forbidden Planet, and their recent move only makes the store better. Gone are the cramped walking spaces, the bag checks, and the top floor. Everything is laid out in a nice open floor with lots of space for moving around and seeing all the awesome stuff this store has to offer. If you're visiting Union Square and are nerd-inclined, you owe it to yourself to stop by.
